 Mangrove, FWC and atrox pix

This is the Mangrove received yesterday (after freakin’ FedEx left it on the doorstep of a little old lady). It is in the midst of a shed, and where it has come clean, notice the nice blue highlights. (About 5 ft.)

I’ve had the FWC about two weeks now and nary a problem. Just finished a shed two days ago and is a really good looking animal. Fast and powerful too. (3.5 ft.)

Hera is the female atrox. Here she is getting ready to shed and is no mood for fools flashing in her face. I got her and Zeus from TX in September as babies; she was about 14", the male 10". Atrox do not have sexual dimorphism as a rule, although individual females may be larger than their counterparts. Both snakes came from different bloodlines, so they should breed well.

Thanks, ambig, they are good looking animals, especially the Mangrove. I purchased that from LLL Reptile out of Oceanside CA for $89.00 plus FedEx shipping ($35.00 or so). The FWC I got from the Reptileguru, but he is now out of them. That one cost me $200 plus shipping. Check kingsnake.com; there’s usually a few up for sale. But pay attention to the shipping policy of the sellers!! Some will ship rear-fanged snakes like "regular" venomous, via Delta Dash only. That requires you to go to a major airport and pick up the critters. Also costs about $85.00 plus boxing charges, yadda yadda. Good luck in your search, and if I can be of any assistance, give me a holler.

Take care,
JD

(Both LLL and Retileguru have websites which is where I ordered from. Today I got greedy and bought a Malaysian Golden Hognose from LLL. I think I’m addicted!!)

Poor old lady... she comes to sign for a package and looks inside... AAAAAHHHH!!!! They’re gorgeous, and I’d really love to see the mangrove after the shed. Mangroves are one of my favorite snakes.

Geckogirl- the problem was that LLL Reptiles doesn’t require a signature so it was just left on her side porch. There are some dummies in this park that would go ahead and open the thing; that would have been interesting to explain to the sheriff’s department!

Anyway, the Mangrove has finished his shed, but is still playing hard to get and hiding out day and night. As soon as it relaxes a little I’ll try and set up a shot. I haven’t had a lot of luck getting terrestrial snakes to hold still for a candid... maybe it would help if I stick them in the freezer for an hour??? Anyway, I’ll let you know soon as it co-operates!

One way to be sure your arrivals are not left on the wrong doorstep or in the heat or cold is to pick up at the local hub of Fedex. Just tell the shipper to have them SENT TO the Fedex local Manned hub. Do DHL the same way also. A box left on the porch in the summertime heats up real quick if the sun hits it. Five minutes will be too long even.

 Three new shots of Thor

After I finish house cleaning Thor’s cage and set him back on a branch, he will remain there for an extended period of time, barely moving. Nothing will phase him either; he does not bolt or startle when I move around near him or touch his body. He is one self-assured snake, and I’m glad he’s peaceful!! (That head is massive)
I hope the blue sheen is visible to y’all.

He’s beautiful, and a mangrove will very likely be my first hot in the distant future.

 Mangrove as a first

I got you hooked, huh?? I think you’ll be pleased with your decision, if the snake you get is anything like mine. He (or she, I’m not brave enough to do any probing yet!) just seems to have a superior attitude. As you can see by the new pix, this one knows he’s a badass, and not even some dopey human sticking a flash in his face a bunch of times is gonna blow his cool. Let me know when you decide to score one.

 Mangrove as a first

Mangroves have always been one of my favorite rear-fangeds, along with mussuranas. But seeing them on this forum makes me want them more! It’s going to be a LOOOONNG time before I get a mangrove, but in a few years I may start getting snakes (my parents won’t let me)

GECKOGIRL22, I see you have roaringbrook listed as a web-site. What do you do for them? Just curious....

I feed, excercise and clean cages of herps, including corn snakes, king snakes, milk snakes, toads, tree frogs and the really awesome Eastern Spadefoot toads. There are no hots there though.
