 Another (unsuccesful) Jasper County Trip

-Thanks again DNR

Went back down to Jasper county this weekend to see if we could turn up more snakes (this time without collecting) so we wouldn’t catch any trouble from DNR.

Day started out slow, two weeks ago we were finding ALL SORTS of junk, this time not so much.
First snake a black racer, these snakes are a pretty common find, we usually do not even attempt to catch them. but teeny tiny Evan still jumped at the chance.

Next up was a recent DOR, VERY big and VERY disappointing, this has been one snake I can usually turn up dead, just never alive.

Same road, a young female preparing to dig a nest.

Few more uneventful hours with lots of flipping, more black racers.
Finally found a GREAT looking tin site with lots of junk, me and Evan wandered off looking behind bark for Scarlet kings (none), while Collin and Jeff flipped all the tin. they called us back to the car saying nothing had been flipped, walking back I noticed a single piece of tin that was unflipped.

Dual copperheads, second is VERY hard to see.

So we continued on, pulled over and walked literally 20 feet off the road to pull a bit of bark. As we left the edge of the road, DNR pulled up again. Apparently, EVERYTHING down there is owned, and we were trespassing. A bit of sweet talk, got us out of the situation. But haviig no where to herp kind of ruined the trip, so we headed back home. Not 100 yards from where we got pulled over, we saw our target road that we had made the trip down there to herp, but now we couldn’t.

So we returned home vowing to NEVER visit this area of the state again, just too much trouble.

And a few scenic shots
