4 times in a year? My water dragon has layed eggs 4 times in roughly a year, almost every 3 months. Before she started doing this, she only layed eggs once a year in the fall for three years in a row. I have not varied the amount of heat or light she gets in that time and can’t figure out why she just keeps laying them. I am starting to worry that if she keeps it up she may get sick due to the amount of calcium and other vitamins it takes to produce so many eggs.
And before anyone asks I have my light timer set at about 14 hours on, and obviously 10 hours off. She lays 9 to 13 eggs per clutch. Any ideas as to why she just keeps going would be greatly appreciated, or is this is just normal for a mature female?

4 times in a year? Laying eggs 4 times in a year, is normal. My one female has laid 3 clutches so far. Laying 4 clutches just means that she is healthy enough to do it, and that you are doing a good job taking care of her.

4 times in a year? Glad to hear it. I was starting to get worried that she would be taxing her body too much and might get sick from lack of vitamins. She has a healthy appetite and other than one time of coughing up blood after laying eggs shows no apparent ill effects from doing it so often. The coughing up blood was, according to a vet, a burst blood vessel in her lungs or throat from straining to push, or it could have been internal bleeding but sense she didn’t die this was ruled out as a possibility.
I am relieved to hear it is normal, now maybe I should see about getting or borrowing a Male so all these eggs don’t just go to waste!

4 times in a year? Yeah, after my dragon Rogue’s 3rd clutch, she became a little "off." She was kinda lethargic and didn’t eat. She is much better now. I do think having many clutches does wear them out a little, and is kinda taxing on their bodies. But I think, if you do your best to make sure they are getting their calcium and keep hydrating they do ok. Thats great that she has a healthy appetite. That is always a good sign. Rogue has always been a finkey eater, so she will go through good periods in eating and bad, and I’ve always had to work hard with her to get her to eat, so I was surprised when she laid that many clutches. I thought she was going to lay a 4th, because she had started to dig again, but so far, she hasn’t laid anymore this year. My other female, which is bigger and healthier, hasn’t laid any yet. I guess she is waiting until next year.
The whole coughing up blood thing, would freak me out. That makes since though about the broken blood vessel. I’m glad she was ok. I wish I also had a male too. It seems a shame that they go through all that trouble just to have infertile eggs!

4 times in a year? Ya the blood thing freaked me and the wife out, but the vet said to just watch her because there was basically nothing that could be done if it was internal bleeding. She took it easy for a few days not moving much, and then was back to normal and VERY hungry. That was three clutches ago and it hasn’t happened since.
