 Where to find roaches...

...in my apartment!

A few months back I fed the dragons some roaches. Well as it turns out, I suspect some of the smaller ones got away. In the last week or so we have found 2 roaches in the apartment, and maybe a month and a half - 2 months ago I found one in the dragon room. Where can I look to find more of them? Are they going to stay in the warmer dragon room or are they going to try and get into the rest of the apartment, which is a tad cooler.
Also, what is the life span of these things? If I’m not mistaken roaches are generally radiated to prevent reproduction, are they not?

Thanks!

Jamie

Try looking and warm dark places. I don’t know about the radiation but that’s where roaches like to breed and live. Especially if it is slightly damp as well.

Just let the lizard find them .....lol

The roaches seek food and moisture /pantry/ closets/bath cabinets...some here raise them ...so I don’t think radiation is done . Otherwise we would not be able to breed more stock

I only got them once, and I won’t do it again. I got them locally in Kitchener, I thin it was at petsmart.

I won’t do it again because I could not keep them all under control, and some of the smaller ones got away, I think those are the ones I am having issues with now. From here on our I’ll stick to worms and crickets. I can live with crickets wandering around my apartment, but not roaches... I have only had one issue with a super worm, it dug into the soil and by the time I found it, it had transformed into a 1.5" beetle.

Depending on what type roach you bought it may have a short life span or it may breed again...Being in The Great White North may prove to be a blessing ....they won’t survive the winter temps ...you may have to keep the lizard at a friends and let temps drop like crazy come the fall / winter.

I thought many times about raising and feeding them ... I read much about the different types of roaches from the websites that offered them. The information is there if you search for it. The temps and foods they like ..the life span and stuff like that. most of them are imported and require special care to survive.

What kind were they??

I have no idea what kind they were. I researched AFTER I bought them, I now know I could of gotten breeds that wouldn’t be able to climb the walls of the container they were in.
Personally, I could care less seeing a roach run across the floor, all escapee feeders here die a horrible death, Death by Turtle. The WD’s its Bite, chomp chomp swallow... the turtle its more like; drag under water, chomp off a bit, not enough to kill, champ off more and more the whole time the thing is kicking under the water hopelessly... One of these days feeders might learn not to get out in this household, lol, don’t I wish.
The big problem is with the fiancee, she is not fond of roaches and some other insects.
Its not that cold here right now, so leaving windows open over night or whatever would do nothing but aggravate them. I guess I just gotta keep my eyes open and try to catch them before Sheena does, lol...

Like has already been stated, they’ll be hiding in dark, warm, moist places. You’ll likely find them hiding under things...furniture, piles of clothes, and under appliances. Actually under your fridge would be a good place to check as it’s dark and warm under there. I also had a couple very small escapees a while back, and found their corpses inside my computer case...another warm dark place. You can put out bug traps, either something that will poison them (not a good idea if you’re going to give it to your turtle after you find it) or the glue kind they get stuck to.

If the conditions are right and the roaches reach adult size there is a possibility of reproduction. On average roaches live somewhere around a year, but there is some variance in that between species.
