 Update: its been a while

Hey, its been a while and a few things came up. Firstly, Junior is doing well, nothing to report for him. Secondly, Godzilla isnt doing as well. He has an eye problem. I do not know exactly whats wrong, so I thought Id ask you guys before doing anything (other than calling vet). He hasnt been eating much because of his eye, he keeps it closed all the time, cept when i give him baths. But, to leave on a good note, I have a black soldier fly invasion!!! LOL most probably wouldnt want a fly invasion but I do. For those who dont know, the pheonix worm is the larve to the fly. I have about 6 in the cage now, hopefully they will make some pheonix worms for me... if this isnt a good idea, just let me know.

thanks for reading,
John

First thing that comes to my mind is what kind of UVB light are you useing? There have been problems with the compact (coil) bulbs causing eye problems. There is a recent post about it titled let’s talk uvb. If that’s not the problem than hopefully someone here with more experience in medical issues can help, I don’t know much about it. As for the soldier flies, I think it’s a good idea to try to breed your own phoenix worms (they are so small and expensive) but I’m not sure I would do it in the viv with the lizards (if that’s what you were saying that is). Other than that good luck and good hearing from ya again!!

As for the UVB light, I have standard tube one. And for the flies, I bought a butterfly larva kit, it comes with this pop-up enclosure where im probably going to breed the flies. But if is ok for the flies to be in with the lizards, then ill keep them in the viv.
Thanks
John

p.s. Should I try to rub his eye gently with a warm Q-tip???

Oh Gosh for the eye, you really need some eye antibiotic..To me it looks like his got an infection going on there.. or an injury...Did he get injured in his eye that you know of ? He might have got something in it....What do you use for your substrate ? I wouldn’t rub it with anything just let it be....

I think your best bet is take him to the vet and let them look at it.....

Good luck on your Phx worms..I love those worms but I have to feed too many I have 6 dragons...LOL

that eye is bad shape. eye antibiotic is very inexpensive to get from the vet. you need to get that looked at right away as its already milky and clouded over.

 Update: its been a while

Yay!! I just gave him a bath and he opened his eye. He scratched it and then opened it (after swimming around for a while). Now hes sitting in the tub, blicking both eyes and his bad eye is looking a lot better!!! I think something must have gotten in there and caused an irratation. But now it looks a lot better!! I am still taking him to the vet just in case. but im so releived that he has both eyes opened. It took about a week of baths to finally get some improvement. I will continue the baths and still take him to the vet. Thanks!

Thanks for the help!
JOHN

thanks everyone. we’re not out of the woods yet, hes seeing a vet soon (its hard to find one thats resonable, safe, and willing to see a lizard). Hes liking the baths more and more. hes still very lazy but at least hes opening his eye more often.

thanks
John
