 Success stories about not eating

well i have 2 dragons that arnt eating on their own. and i’d like to get some motivation from some of the members on here... so i ask

how many of you have success stories about a dragon who wont eat to the point where you had to syringe feed for several weeks. at what point did the dragon start eating again. what did you have to do? what did you use to feed?

its rainy today and i kind of feel a bit depressed about my ausi water dragons :( i need a bit of sun shine in my day!

try different stuff.

like large hornworms, the bright green almost always get my non eaters to attack them viciously.

also i hear that the smell of butterworms also entice them to eat.

what food items have you tried so far?

 Success stories about not eating

i just bought 1000 super worms since agama international feeds that to them @ the farm. i am feeding out of a dish and they arnt touching them. (agama feeds out of dishes)

i’ve tried dubia but 2 of the 3 female have not been interested.
the newest female is doing ok and i believe she is infact eating the dubia cuz i saw her get one once her 2nd day here. so the newest female i have the highest hopes for. its the older 2 female that i have had for about 4 months now. and the sickest one that almost died form shock from dehydration

i was going to order horn worms but budget was tight cuz of vet visit. but next week i’ll be placing a horn worm order. also butter worms yum!!!

the problem isnt food items. its completely uninterested in eating. one female is to weak . vet called her "Placid"

i just wanna get some success stories ya know? some higher hopes

its so much work every day when both females are not interested in eating on their own, luckly i dont work untill the evening, and i only work 4 days a week so i love taking care of everything daily

like i said this thread is so i can read success stories. idk if there is any more advice to give to me other then to just stick with it for another few months

hmm what about live pinky? :S
where is their viv situated? maybe you should move them into a room that no other herps are in, and not many peopel are there.

MY female CWD didnt eat for forever, maybe one worm once a week. she’s like your AWD where she had spent her whoel life in this big viv.

But then when i got her i placed her in a temporary flexarium, to make sure she was not sick etc. and she didnt eat anything. was black and hid all day. I’d leave stuff out and leave the room and she’d eat them. I put them in the most quiet room though. no pets no people.

Then i moved her my big big viv, that i tried to make as realistic as possible, and she’s flourishing in it.

Is there enough hiding spots in her viv that can make her feel safe and secure? how big is her cage?

the change of how her habitat looks is prob a big reason of her feelign stressed. is there anyway you could make a viv that resembled agamas enclosures?

your prob looking at the wrong enclosure. i have fake plants that they can hide in. and anything you see from previous pictures has been completely re-done and they are all in seporate enclosures .. remember?

i cover the fronts of their enclosures and they cant see out. check out the meet alli post i made.

the house has one main living/dining/kitchen area. a great room. aint so great

i will be moving in a few months and then they will have their own room where they wont be able to see eachother. right now they cant see eachother but they can see the dogs and hear talking. but they are coverd and cant see any more.

she isnt scared any more i think she’s just recovering mainly. it’ll be a long proses. the newly aquired alli is doing good. isnt showing signs of stress and is eating. she’s never been able to see out of her enclosure.

i know what i did wrong and i am confident i corrected the issues. i just have to keep doingn what i am doing..

at this point they are not eating cuz they are SICK and dehydrated. reptiles take oh so long to heal and reincorporate. i just have to keep doing what i am doing and hope that they will pull threw and one day eat well.

friend said it took one of her dragons 5 months, but now she’s one of the biggest dragons she has and one of the biggest eaters too.

No answer for that one unfortunately as i live in OZ, the best thing to do is go to a pet shop and ask if they have "feeder snails" as i know people feed them to BTS over there.

My female is also eating less, but I think it’s because she’s in a sort of ’hibernate’ mode. Last year she tried to brumate.. she kept waking up and eventually stayed up, but her appetite was still weak.

What exactly have you tried? Mine goes gaga for wriggly earth worms.. I think its the shine of them that she likes.. :]

again, she is sick, her "eating mode" is turned off in her brain. due to stress and dehydration.

it seems no one here actually has been in the same boat as me. but luckly one of my friends has been threw this for 5 months straight. yes. it can take 5+ months to get the reptile to eat on its own again.. has any one had this happen to them? i havent heard any one chime in yet about this...

its not what i am offering. that has absolutely nothing to do with why she’s not eating. its cuz she is sick from dehydration, possible calcium issue, and acclimation stress..

i’ve gone through this scenario a few time with a sick dragon. i did not feed every day. i fed them every other day or every third day. remember its a reptile and they do not burn calories the same way we do (warm bloods). i know you have one on antibiotics and this will curtail the appetite. how are your aussies doing today?

they are doing well today. Lady (who was on her back) is up ontop of a half cut round log hide. which is a good thing. usually she cant make it up ontop of things. and ususally is on the ground. but shes up! she’s been soaking too.

the other female that arrived the same time lady did, is doing ok. she is strong and active just doesnt eat. i’m keeping a close eye on here and feeding every few days. though i did do a 4 day in a row kick start on that girl

the new arrival is doing good. idk if she’s eating other then the first time i saw her. but i have been tossing in a roach every day and either they are hiding or are being eaten. she isnt eating from her bowl as much though. she is soaking and basking perfectly fine. and rarely is in her hide area i made for her. she doesnt mind being handled and isnt a wild card. she’s a sweetie. of course im not handleing here yet. but when i do its been a pleasent experience . no clawing or biting. just a bit of a wiggle.

the male needs no update. he’s a pig who eats from my hand. though he is still scared of me flairs up his beard and head bobs untill he realizes i have food then CHOMP!!!

he’s been getting better about not bitting my fingers when he eats... good boy!

frills are doing good. but both males are getting stressed from being housed togehter. lovely lil girl is all bright white colored and the 2 guys are dark almost black with their head low and pressed against branch..

they are eating well indeed. i’m gonig to be making a post here about the male.... one of them hasto be re-homed!!

<3 much love!

 Success stories about not eating

I have a cwd female named Charlie. She was pretty sickly with mbd when I got her at a few months old. She had so many troubles! At one point she had an RI, got a ’lil IV, shots, etc. At another point, she had undiagnosed parasites for the longest time. Then fatty liver disease from being fed high-fat food items trying to fatten her up quickly.

Anyway, after all of that, she went thru a long spell where she wouldn’t eat anything and she got so so so thin and dark. Each day I went to see if I had lost her, I was expecting it. I syringe fed her chicken baby food, mixed with green beans and calcium; vits once a week. It did take five months or so, I thought it would never end. I fed her pretty much every other day, offering food items in the interim. Then she loved her silkies! Then it was f/t finkies, then crx and supers. It just took awhile.

Ya never know. Just keep treating for dehydration and stress, and do the babyfood thing. Oh, that was about four years ago. She is doing great now!

omg!!! this is such a common thing. i had to do that for my frilly once and actually got better but he died from a freak accident one night when i fell asleep doing homework and rolled over him..... its problably not what you are looking for but it is a success in the feeding part but it didnt end well i guess. but getting them to the vet and i had to feed him this weird medicine every night it was a pain in the butt. but i worked.

they are all doing just fine. Lady is gaining strength. she’s more active now but still stressed and awkward.

male is always fine. he’s learning to not rip off the skin on my fingers when i feed him. he’s doing ALOT better with that.. he actually carefully takes the roach now. instead of lashing out quickly. :)
