 Look at his leg!

Hey people i need some help, im concern about some lump or infection that is showing in my CWDs front leg. It looks like a spider bite or some type of infections because it looks really swollen, when i feed i put crickets in a deep dish so when he wants to eat he catches them in there, would it have to do anything with this like for example a cricket bite? or would it have to do anything with his bones, i keep my crickets in a high calcium diet and also powder them in every other 2 feedings. Here are some pictures so u can judge for urself and maybe can help me figure out wat to do.

If u notice his has a huge blister in his palm...

alright guys thanks and please help me out here...

it looks like MBD to me. lets talk about your UVB light. no matter how much calcium you give him, his body cannot metabolize it properly without the UVB. what kind of calcium powder are you using?

please respond as quickly as you can as we need to get on top of this right away.

Yes it could be the start of MBD (Metabolic Bone Disease) or could he have gotten hurt in his viv on something?......

could be gout too. do you notice him going potty? what color is it? yellow? gout is from too much uric acid in the system. make sure he’s drinking plenty of water.

OMG and i was really trying to avoid any bone disease, i bought everything i needed from UVB to calcium and cricket diet prior to getting my dragon to avoid this stuff. Its actually weird because its swollen all around and it looks like he has a blister around his whole leg, he still climbs up and down the branches to eat and poop in potty however, so i dont know if its actually hurting him cause his still sort of active. As far as the UVB i bought the ZILLA 3-in-1 lamp fixture, i have the 24" with two bulb sockets and the UVB.
Link

The bulb its the Tropical 25 UVB Fluorescent Bulbs 12 Watt 20 Inch T5, i think but i know its a T5.
Link

My tank its a 24Hx24Lx18W and my UVB light sits about 5 inches away from the talles branch in the tank (where he normally lays). The calcium powder im using comes with D3 i cant think of the name now but ill double check what brand.

Thanks Minya

Hurt i dont know, theres time where he acts a lil crazy and jumps from his talles branch to the bottom but i mean theres no rocks nor anything that can cause any injuries, but i might be wrong. So how do i stop MBD???

When he notices that i change his water he climbs down and jumps in 2 poop, he first throws some white looking stuff and then gets out and mins later goes back in and finishes up with the whole brown feces. NOW one question, how do i know when his drinking water? Theres been couple of times where he licks the water that drips from the glass when i spray. How can i make sure his hydrated, i normally mist twiece a day.

The white looking stuff is urates (pee)....Thats nothing to worry about....Just as long as it stays nice and white......

But getting back to the leg...could he have gotten burned on any of the lights?.....How long has his leg been swollen?

oh i see... who would of thought. Well his pee looks white, not like ULTRA white but it does look white rather than yellow. The tank is covered with a screen and the dragon has no access to the very top of the basking so i think it’ll be kinda hard for him to get burned... Its really strange why he got this from one day to the other, i dont think its been there for a while but i just noticed it yesterday. I change his water daily and see him deepin in but i missed one day without changing it and next thing i see this in his leg i was surprice! so i know it hasnt been more then 3 days. Im really trying to avoid a VET visit, i im short in cash and wont have enough even for the visit, so i want to first try something that might help before considering the vet.

Thanks

in looking at the specs of your combo light fixture, did you put the clear plastic covering underneath the bulbs? if so, the plastic will reduce your UVB output dramatically. you have to take the plastic cover off so there is nothing between the lights and your reptile. its the clear piece in the picture.

Ha I know the feeling about being short on cash ( My middle name is "no cash")..LOL.
and vets aren’t exactly cheap now days.....I really think he hurt his leg somehow...These little guys can bounce around and jump off the walls and do all kinds of crazy things...I know mine get injured sometimes the way they jump around....I’d give it a few days and see if the swelling goes down...

You know you might try putting some heat on his leg...Take a wash cloth and run it under some hot water too warm it up...apply it to his leg for a few minutes, (just make sure it warm and not hot) you don’t want to burn him and then after that let him go get in his cool pond water....Your kinda doing the hot & cold thing.. and see if that won’t help with the swelling...If the swelling doesn’t go down in a few days then I think a vet visit is in order..maybe they would let you make payments...

it should only be around 30 dollars for a basic vet visit. i think its a good idea to get the baby in right away. figuring out why all that fluid is in there is important. maybe the vet can drain some of it to give him some relief.

I hate to say it ...but I think you have been duped by pretty packaging and bells and whistles...That light set up and the T-5 bulb will probably not contribute much in the way of UVB... I would start saving ...and researching these guys listed below, for a better lighting solution in the future.

see some of their videos ... and then the products pages...

Mega Ray

I don’t think it is MBD yet...I would hope you get a calcium supplement with NO D3... UVB and D3 will cause some over dosing of D3....D3 is a very difficult area and research has shown when adding this supplement, less is better.

Get a calcium supplement that is pure calcium with no additives.Use that every other day.
Your 1x a week vitamin will have D-3 typically....that’s all you need for now...

If they are abscesses they will need to be examined / and treated internally and externally with antibiotics

Good Luck

Hey thanks for the helpful input cphill and my calcium does have D3 so i need to go look for another without it.

What is an ABSCESSE and why do these happen?

That’s a tuff question...I am not sure ...but it tends to be associated with infection....

Here is what wikpedia has to say about it .... I know it pertains to humans in this image ....but it is the same principle going on.....antibiotics are the normal way to fight back. Hot packs to bring it to the surface ... and topical germ killing cream to fight any open wound and help it to heal cleanly... triple antibiotic (neosporin)... white cream base ... not clear gel.

Abcess

He may have been ill prior to your time ...just showing up now???

Yes a pure calcium will not have any additives... usually on the same shelf as the one with D-3.

 Look at his leg!

the problem with an abscesses, pus, is that a reptile does not have the enzymes necessary to break down the pus in order for the body to flush it out like we do- it has to be drained or cut out and treated with antibiotics.

i think most like the reptisun 10.0 tube.

were you able to get a vet?
