 Doesn’t anything eat snails?

besides people...

we have all these critters who eat the most crawly and obnoxious things imaginable; NONE of them eat snails?

when i first came to texas, i thought the snails here were cute. they’re the little cone-shaped spirally kind, instead of the big, round ones.

i have been fighting the dang snails since i moved into my trailer two years ago. this year, because of the nearly constant rain, they’re especially bad. geez, they’re all over the flippin’ sidewalk, all over the porch, the grass, MY GARDEN (!!!!!!!), crawling up the sides of the house...it’s positively nightmarish. you can’t take a step outside without crunching the horrid things underfoot.

what is obviously needed here is some sort of critter who just thinks snails are delicious! it would be both handy and economical. i’d like to put in an order for a couple of those, please.

mine ate canned snails once. expensive tho.

I don’t see any harm in it. I bet the shell has lots of calcium also. They probably eat snails in the wild, they are slow and plentiful.

Jesse,

If you have an Armstrong garden center near by they sell a snail that eats other snails....also google natural predators of the snails. I know that Australian water dragons love them... bit more expensive to acquire ....LOL

Good luck with your tales of nightmares and crunchie walks.

ok, well, this is special. in reading about the predator (or decollate) snails, my question was, then how do you get rid of the decollate snails? it does mention that decollate snails will lay eggs and multiply, so you should probably get fewer than you actually think you need. this is going somewhere, i promise.

the article shows a picture of a pile of snail-eating snails that looked suspiciously familiar. upon reading further, i am warned, "unless you live in texas or some california counties, the decollate snail is, sadly, not an option." so i decide (with foreboding in my heart) that i need to find a closer up picture of these snails. i found one. i found several. see this?

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE SEVEN MILLION OF IN MY YARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO WONDER WE DON’T HAVE THOSE PLAIN, OLD ROUND SNAILS IN TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OUR SNAILS ATE ’EM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well then ...I guess you’ll have to use copper placed on the ground to create an electrical current they won’t cross ... ...or Iron phosphate.

Keep reading about natural ways to rid them ...
