 Night vision?

So lately I have been spending a lot of time working on the girls enclosure, sometimes late at night when their lights go off.

Something I have come to notice is that unless I am harassing them (which I try not to) they seem to be in the sleeping position BEFORE lights out, the timers shut off every night at 9, and they are usually ready to sleep by 8-8:30

this makes me wonder, how well can a water dragon see after dark? It actually kind of worried me this evening because they were active long after the lights went out, I was worried about shutting off the lights down there and then not being able to find their way around, and maybe jumping around without being able to see where they are going to land. But they got comfortable just as I was finishing up.

One of my renovations will include a night heat lamp that comes on when the other lights go off. I should of had one long ago...

I will post a thread later on the renovations... I should be done in the next few days. Its taking longer than planned because I am having to do it with them in it. Taking a wall out and replacing it with doors was tricky, they kept trying to escape!

 Night vision?

not sure if they have night vision, but i know theres some nights i will be drifting off to sleep in bed when i head a "thump thump splash" and its my girl jumping from the top of the cage, to the middle branch, jumping at the door (its a plastic shower curtain for this reason) then landing in her pond. lol. and i just giggle to myself. but their always curious and then im sure they get bored of watching you about the time you get bored of working. they are complex to take care of, but simple littler personalities ive found. lol

 Night vision?

hi jamie,

these lizards are diurnal meaning they are daylight creatures. in the wild, they will go to bed once the sun goes down. i try to keep a natural circadian rhythm by turning my lights on a bit before dawn and off at sundown. they go to sleep between 5:30-6pm. now that the angle of the sun is changing as winter sets in, your lizards may go to seep earlier as the days get shorter.

there is probably enough ambient light for them to see around the enclosure at night.

 Night vision?

Well they are in the basement, so natural light is very limited, only 3 windows in the whole basement. I have them placed under one of them.

It gets pretty dark down there though, so if they don’t have any sort of night vision then they probably can’t see at all... mind you, nothing has changed for the last year and I’m just thinking about it now, lol, they have been fine so far.

Thanks

Jamie
