I love agamids
i had researched sail fin dragons on sailfindragon.com, their care is very similar to frill dragon, bassilisk, water dragon (chinese) and other agama species. i set up the tank and easily achieved humidity and temp i needed so i placed my order!!! i got him in yesterday and OMG is he gorgeous. he is a imported hatchling long term captive 4 months old and i dont doubt that what so ever. he is gorgeous. his skin is so silky and smooth and soft and his colors are so very vibrant, his temperament is skittish but he ate right out of my hand WHILE i was holding him!!!! i let him settle in yesterday right out of the bag. and today i picked him up to examine him after letting him settle all night.
no more handling for this lil guy for a long while. i am confident he is eating out of his bowl, i found a half bit roach and 4 missing roaches in there this morning. satisfied with him. he’s going to get a few weeks to settle in!! |

http://www.switzerreptiles.com/id6.html also carries them right now they have slightly older as well as 4 month old also long term captive. i sent them an email and i got a very detailed response so i recommend both places they have about the same requirements as water dragons and basilisks :) but also the same nose rub issue, but not AS bad.... these lil suckers are QUICK too. they dart across when scared. so good long acclimation to new enclosure with covered front is a must. i completely covered all sides of my 100 gallon tank. and last night he was sleeping like a lil baby ontop of a cork bark piece right under the top glass center piece, it was adorable :) usually he bolts as soon as he sees me heres what an adult/sub adult looks like. i believe this is a male. but i havent seen many pix of these weberi subspecies, mostly u see pix of the big huge blue one but this one is a different type sailfindragons.com

to my amazement he ate all 4 supers!! guess that lil greens trick worked. supers usually stop moving after a while and offering them food will make the supers wiggle and move again. -happy dance- |

i took him out of his enclosure tonight. i grabbed a roach out of the bin and held it infront of him and he went crazy and wiggled like crazy trying to get it mouth wide open and tong sticking straight out.. naturally i am scared of his really big sharp teeth so i just barly let him snatch it from me he grabbs it and chews it i grab another one and wasnt so careful this time and CHOMP right down on the roach and the tip of my thumb... yeah. his teeth defiantly are SHARP.... he is doing great, i am so amazed!!! he is such a flighty reptile but once you have him in your hand he’ll eat right out of it! i removed half of the cover for his 100 gallon tank so he can half see out. he’s not running away or hiding when he sees us. so thats good. |

jeez, you handle those stinking rotten nasty ugly roaches with your HANDS????!!!!!! EWWWWWWWWWW!!!!! LOL!!! oh, i’m going to have nightmares..... anyway, try some regular old eyebrow tweezers to hold the roaches for him. i bet his little teeth are sharp! just wait until he’s full grown at 3.5 ft STV. i can’t wait to watch him thrive and grow:) you’ve got me really interested in the sailfin dragon now. i’ve been looking at sailfindragon.com and see that HUGE purpley/blue male. i realize the pictures are doctored with the coloring, but that face... sooooooo sweeeet!!! |

yeah i will defiantly use the tweezers. i just fed him a few min ago while holding him i think this guy is going to be extremely easy to calm down seeing that he’ll eat from my hands.... he does take a few min to catch, he’s sooooooo fast.... and he does need at least 100 gallon tank. no joke. this guy runs from one end to the other and SMACK! but only while i am trying to catch him... his temperament is a cross between a Chinese water dragon, and a frill dragon with the stomach of a bearded dragon. he doesnt mind being handled but will freak out and run when u try to catch him. minya you should tottaly purchuse one from LLL reptile. it would be so worth it!!! oh and hush about roaches. crickets are far more nasty with their bacteria and rotting smell!!! and roaches wont eat your dragons in the middle of the night!!! and.. and .. roaches live up to a year or more. no need to quickly feed out before your crickets die off. and no ordering ever 2 weeks :) best of all, if you forget about the roaches for a few months... they’ll still be there when you remember them hah.. (i forgot about mine for 4 months) |
