Baby Water Dragon Concern I am a first time reptile owner, and I got my baby CWD exactly a week ago. He is super super tiny, and came in really active, eating and drinking well. He’s been wonderful so far, but I just have a concern. I tried to pick him up today because he seems fairly comfortable with my hand being close to him. Whenever I pick him up he rests on my hand and closes his eyes like he is sleeping and doesn’t move or open his eyes. He just sleeps. But when I try to put him back into his tank he refuses to go and climbs up my arm and falls back asleep. It doesn’t make any sense. Does he want to be on my arm or no? It is the first time I have ever held him but the gesture makes it seem like he likes it but I am not sure because he immediately closes his eyes and puts his head down to "sleep". (P.S. it was his bed time so he should be sleepy but im worried.) Help pleasee.

Baby Water Dragon Concern Mine does that too, my guess is because they obviously don’t want to return to captivity! Your skin is very warm to them and your arm makes a perfect perch, so they seem comfortable sitting there for long periods. I just make sure the room is at least about 75 degrees if keeping tmine out for long periods. If he doesn’t mind being there, get him used to it and if your somewhere with nice weather he will enjoy sitting on your shoulder and keeping you company on walks. Post a picture!

Baby Water Dragon Concern They enjoy the warmth, it’s true. The closing of the eyes is like playing hide and seek with a toddler, i.e. if they can’t see you, then you can’t see them It’s a stress minamising thing.
WD’s can also play dead, and it’s SO realistic it’s not an experience I’d want any of you guys to go through.
If you have your WD out of his enclosure, make sure the room isn’t noisey and you don’t move fast. just sit still near his tank with him on your hand. He’ll either actually go to sleep, or "wake up" and take a look around if he’s feeling brave. Do talk to him though... calm soothing tones, he needs to get used to your voice and to know you have no interest in eating him lol
