 Won’t open eyes.

Hey everyone! So, for the past few days, I noticed Calypso was squinting her left eye but not the right. I figured she had scratched it, or something, so I kept an eye on it. Well today she hasn’t opened them at all. Both eyes. I’m getting concerned because even when I picked her up, she kept them both closed. She was recently at the vet and got a clean bill of health, minus some scabs around her mouth, which the doctor didn’t feel the need to medicate at that time.

She has a UVA/UVB light, calcium and vitamins and paper towel for substrate. She eats crickets, grapes and mealworms. Her tank temperature is 78*-80* and is humid.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

What kind of uvb bulb are you using? How close is she to it?

Ours is doing the same thing. She’s not eating much either, and just acting weird.

Same question - what kind of Uvb bulb are you using? If it is a coil bulb, turn it off for a few days and see if that takes care of the problem. If it does, you need to switch to a tube bulb (reptisun is great). There have been problems in the past with them causing eye problems. The big problem with them even now, is that in order to get enough uvb, they have to be so close to the bulb that it causes other problems.

If you have a tube bulb, and they are 8-10 inches away from it - then my next question would be are you supplementing with vitamins? Vitamin A deficiency can cause problems with the eyes. If you supplement with a reptile vitamin once a week, you are fine.

If neither of the above match your situation, there could be something in the eye, or it could be scratched (evidenced more by only one eye being affected).
