 Just paranoid?

I bout a Hibiscus bush yesterday and I have been scared to put it into the cage in fear of mites. I rinsed it pretty good and haven’t seen anything on it, but im reluctant still on putting it in there with him. I got it from walmart and they supposedly don’t have parasites (sais an associate), but I want to be sure. Should I be ok?

I would be more worried about chemical fertilizers left in the soil and on the leaves. Leave it outside the enclosure for a week or two, watering the soil and foliage well during that time so that any residual chemicals wash off the plant and out of the soil.

Reptile mites are not often transferred by plant matter. More often they are transferred from reptile to reptile ...or in some cases a pet store that sells contaminated substrate.

If you want to know more about mites , the life cycle and how they get around ...read this>>>

Reptile mites do not seek out mammals or humans or plant matter....but they do hitch hike ...

My worst fear is going to a pet store and possibly bringing 1 or 2 home by accident. But I also use the remedy highly recommended in the article for snakes...
