Advice please- Water dragon’s mouth Hi i am hoping that someone on here can advise me about my chinese water dragon’s mouth. She is an 18 month old female, who normally eats a diet of locusts, morios and waxies. (i have persevered with veg but shes just so fussy!) Over the last few days she has refused to eat anything except waxies.Last night i fed her and managed to get a morio down her too, but as she was eating i noticed something that i have never seen before. Im not sure if its normal and i just havent seen it, or if it could be the reason that she is only recently accepting waxies. In her mouth, right near the front tip is a yellowish area, kind of looks like gums, but not pink as the rest of her mouth is. In one area it is red, and looks a little sore? She has no damage to the front of her face so i dont suspect nose banging to be the cause. I will try and post a photo if i can work out how to do it as i am new to the site. If you can help it will be appreciated. Thank you

Advice please- Water dragon’s mouth I didn’t get the image to open but it sounds like mouth rot, in my experience if you have a water dragon this is something you will encounter. They are very sensitive to infection. I would get them to a vet because they almost always need antibiotics to help treat issues. Also make sure temperatures and humidity are good for them (usually around 80-90 degrees varied for basking and cooler area) and at least 70 % humidity. I have had a CWD with an infection before and once they are being treated and have proper temps they improve very quickly, they will eat more and get feisty quick! :)

Advice please- Water dragon’s mouth Thank you for your reply, I made an appointment for a vet this morning just In case. Have to wait until tomorrow to be seen though :( I am concerned as we have had her this long and I’d never seen that, and I’m sure we’d have noticed we have daily contact with her. My temps and humidity are fine, something we have always been a little obsessed about, but I know what you mean it’s always worth asking and checking. (twilightdreamer trained us well in that respect)xx I will post what the vets’ opinion is. Thank you again.

Advice please- Water dragon’s mouth Have seen a specialist reptile vet today, she has an inflamed area in the tip of her mouth caused by trauma- we think a dive at the glass as we haven’t seen her nose banging. Have been given antiseptic to apply twice a day xx excellent vet, very knowledgable, helpful and confident with water dragons x
