My WD’s only get crickets and occasionally mealworms as a treat. Feeding them fish, crickets and worms is quite diverse already. I am not too sure but I would think grasshoppers woudl be a pain to keep and breed as they like to jump ALOT. They have extremely powerful legs and get fairly big they also would need a bigger enclosure because of how far they jump. They fly a little too.

my friend has a bunch of wild ones in his yard and they are really tame. their not to big and you just pick them up they dont fly away or anything. He feeds them to his ciclid and his praying mantis so I think my cdw could handle them.

The only thing I’ve heard you have to worry about wild caught insects is pesticides, fertilizers, etc. Just about everyone uses them and where insects are bound to move over a good bit of land there’s no guarantee that they won’t have ingested some at one point or another.

How do you know your water dragon is getting bored? I mean I only offer mine crickets or meal worms and he doesn’t appear bored to me. He either doesn’t eat the meal worms but eats the crickets, doesn’t eat the crickets, but eats the meal worms, or eats both. Somehow I don’t feel two food choices to be a boring choice for him since he picks what he feels like eating. Three choices would work the same way with more options, in my opinion.

He stops eating mealworms and crickets so i go get giant mealworms or roachs or pinkies or wax worms and he eats lik crazy!! Just a slight change in diet and he goes berzerk and eats it all. Then once hes back to crickits and mealworms. I don’t know he just doesn’t seem too interested. He’s not starving but he would eat a ton if the other stuff was his diet.

Yes the more variety in the diet the better!!!
I feed Awol mealworms, giant mealworms, superworms, silkworms, goldfish, pinkies, fuzzies and yogurt to keep him from getting bored with his food sources. I gave up on crikets because they do escape and will live in the walls and drive you nuts... but he gets enough other stuff to make up for it and oh yea I forgot waxworms which he gets as a treat also.

I would actually suggest that you look into the silkworms if you want to breed anything.

This site explains how easy it is and they are very good for your dragons, plus they never try to escape.
