Humidity meter placement hi all, We are new to this forum as this will be our first water dragon which we are picking up on Monday. I have a couple of questions for you all in the know. firstly,I have just finished building his/her viv and have placed the humidity meter half way up the viv on the cooler end of the tank,Is this right as when i tried it near the heat it would just stay at 35 whatever i did to try and raise it.At the moment it is reading a constant 55 with just a waterfall running and no spraying etc.Any advice on placement of the meter will be v.much appreciated. Secondly,i have done a lot of research on w/d’s and have found the green w/d’s should be kept at 60 to 80 humidity but i have read that australians should be kept slightly lower,is this so and if so,how much as the one we have purchased is an aussy. Thanks in advance for your help and will post you all some pics of him/her when he/she settles in to there new home. This looks like a great forum and im sure i will be here a lot, letting you all know about how goerge is getting on. Regards. John.

Humidity meter placement I personally have 2 hygrometers. 1 cheap Hagen that just reads by range (ie. tropical, desert etc.) and 1-digital which reads the actual percentage of moisture. I think that your current placement is probably optimal. If you are reading 55% with lights and heat on you are doing great! If not, whenthe basking lights and heat sources are turned on, expect it to drop. I think that 50-60% would be fine for an Aussie. You’d like it to be higher for a Chinese, but as long as they can submerse themselves as necessary and have their tank sprayed at least daily, even the Chinese get by without the recommended 60-80%. Good luck with George and please post some pics of your new addition and his home!

Humidity meter placement Thanks Dragos mum, It is at 55 with all the heat and lights turned on,so i am very pleased with myself now after reading what you have said. I will be collecting him tomorrow now instead of Monday as i recieved all my other bits earlier than expected. I will let goerge settle in for a few days and then try and get a few nice pics of him in his new home to show you all. Thanks for the prompt reply and the helpful advice. It really does help when we all have people willing to give us advice,I think you can never know to much when it comes to helping our lizard friends thrive in our homes. Regards. John.

Humidity meter placement I absolutely agree with you! The more we learn (even if it’sfrom other peoples mistakes) the better equipped we are to make a suitable habitat for our herps. I have tried to make my set-up as close to nature as I can and was able to do so with the help of VERY many people on this and other forums. Repticzone is a great international forum filled with wonderfully knowledgable and friendly people. Sometimes you won’t hear from them for weeks, but if you have a problem and post it suddenly you get excellent advice from them! T.D., Eternal, Blueeyes, Skjhonnet, WDM I mean all of you!
