Help, my water dragon is dying !!! ASAP
Please help. My young WD has suddenly become ill. He wont eat now, is looking very thin, very inactive (Altho does still move about to keep warm etc). He has lived with my other WD for months now (See pics). I have tried changin the substrate also. There has been no changes to the tank or anything else. Please help, he just lays there with his eyes shut and flat to the ground. I cant get him to eat or open his mouth so i can force feed him either. Thanks Darren

Help, my water dragon is dying !!! ASAP
I’d have said hes been like this for about a week now, gradually getting worse. I have been to the 2 reptile stores to get some waxies but neither have had any in each time !! I thought I could have used them to tempt him to eat also. The other one isnt bullying him, he used to when this one was first put in his tank, but he still kept eating etc. and now they are best of friends- always sit on top of each other etc !! I have tried dripping some water into his mouth but it hasnt helped. It was about a wek or so ago i had a flood in the soil and substrate section. I tried drying it out about 4 days ago but the soil is still very soggy - altho it is couple of inches below the substrate anyway - which I have also replaced. Anyone else have any ideas - he is sat on me now just still as always :( Thanks SAF Darren

could be constipation...or internal parasites, I suggest get him to a vet asap.. what are your temps like? What is the humidity at? You can also get waxies at bait shops, most good bait shops worms are safe to feed your lizard, and waxies have a good amount of calcium in them. Do you have a UVB bulb? How old is the bulb? Also have you been giving him calcium before he got sick? GD

Help, my water dragon is dying !!! ASAP

Hey Dazbo. My smaller dragon did the same thing for about 2 weeks. What it is, is a lack of proper food. For instance: I was feeding my dragon crickets, but they were far too big for him to take, therefor he starved himself to death, and he would lie there with his mouth open and his eyes shut. What I finally ended up doing is getting some small mealworms and dusting them with Reptivite Vitamin supplement. Now he is very active and very healthy. Just try feeding him some smaller food items, like small mealworms. And to be on the safe side, separate him from the other one. It sounds more like a stress issue than anything. Good Luck SES

A Little Help.

I wouldnt try to force him to eat, he is much better doing that on his own. It sounds like he is really stressed out due to the fact that he just lies there and sleeps all day. Ok here is the thing about waxworms: They are very high in fat, and protein and very low in everything else. But in the state that your dragon is in, I would defintely go for some. Most every dragon that I have seen, even after they have just eaten, will tear apart some waxworms. Just make sure that you dust them with some Multi-vitamin and drop them in a dish and place your dragon beside it. Also, dont buy too many, they turn into Moths very quickly, even overnight you will find a few cacoons in your bunch. Just be careful, and give him some time. Good Luck WDM

A Little Help.

To pry its mouth open and force feed it will work for a little bit, but if you force feed it too much, it will damage the jaw and the throat area, but to get him to start eating, it is a good idea. Try bigger crickets to see if he wants them, and I don’t know if Reptilefood.com runs over there, but I would recommend looking up feeder sites that you can order over the internet and are fedex delivered. To pry his mouth open and any other information that you think I can help with, send me a message and I will help you to the best of my ability. Hope you get help before its too late.
