Quote: Ok everyone stop talking smak!!! Most of you are just saying thing you heard!
If im not mistaken the biggest retic recorded was a 33ft something inch. The biggest snake ever recorded was a 37ft anaconda! But do you actually belive what you hear??? If any of you are right can you guys show me some pics of that 33ft retic?? and that 37ft conda?? No you cant because that was just what people belive they recorded! As of the 1997 Guiness Book of World Records the largest known snake period (ie not kept in captivity) was a 33’ 6" retic found in the 1970’s. Good luck finding pictures of it, but it sure had more grounding than that 37 foot conda (bunk). Quote: The biggest snake I think is fluffy from Bob Clark! I have seen some other larger retics but im not sure if they are dead or alive at the moment.
Misleading but true to a point. Fluffy is currently around 24 feet long and around 400 pounds I believe, I havnt checked Bob Clark’s site in a while. This size makes her the Largest Snake *Currently In Captivity* This is by no means a size record for total footage a snake can acheive and Bob Clark has said this several times. Quote: So heres a review retics grow longer but start to gain girth around 10ft+. Anacondas grow very slow but gain alot of girth!
Slow growth is not exactly the way I would describe a snake that goes from roughly 2 feet to a potential 6 feet within the course of 12 months. If a human baby went from beind 2 feet tall at birth to 6 foot tall by their first birthday I would certainly call that fast growth. I’d call it fast if the child was even 4 feet tall by being 1 year old! Snakes, particularly those like Anacondas and Retics whose natural environment includes large predators, have accelerated birth from the time they are born until they hit an age/size where they are more able to be likely to survive. Natural selection alone tells us that if you live near large predators you need to grow big, and grow big fast. Not clearly this growth rate is not a constant ratio. As they age the snakes growth rates do indeed decline, again much like humans. Snakes continue to grow until death depending on their lifespan. However growth in any animal is determined by the amount off epiphysial plates located at the end of each bone. Not every snake possesses the necessary bone structure to reach the legendary lengths they are thought to be capable of attaining. Quote: SOoooo the movie anaconda search for the blood orchid was the blood orchid made the anacondas stay alive forever .But snakes never stop growing but when older very very very slow growth. So alive forever+growth=1 massive snake !!!
Soo...... Yeaa...... But as stated this is a movie, and a bit of a horrendous falsehood at that (not to mention the acting is awful! As to the link that was posted, that snake has been disputed LOOOOOOONG (haha a pun!) ago. That snake was roughly 22 feet long I believe. The keeper claimed the snake shrunk. Oh the distances people will go for a little publicity. ~GNP |

Quote: largest conda no where near 30 ft. maybe 25. TOPS. retics get an average of 23 for females, 17 for males. candas average 18 for females 14 for males. condas definitely heavier, and can eat more in one "sitting". tics are long and skinny, condas are relatively "short" and fat.
NY zoo has a 25 foot conda at the moment. To say "no where near 30" is a bit misleading. An avg of 23 feet for retics is probably false as well. The largest current retic in captivity is Fluffy, 24 1/2 feet. Quote: Nooooooo !!!!! Retics get 12-20ft I have never seen a 12ft normal male retic so I can suport that usually males average 14-16ft and females 16-20ft or sometimes more but 23ft isnt the average for females!! And 17ft isnt the average for males!
