I know this is an old post but i just had to reply on a few things here.

To just start out by saying that i openly admit I know nothing about reptiles like you guys do and like half the people on this site, I am here for your information and advice.

However, that being said, i think this Atrax character is awfully close minded about this whole thing. Stop trying to shut down someones observations and experiences with their reptiles. Thats the problem with science and scientists as a whole these days because WAY too often you "experts" shut down someone who has had personal experience with the same animals you have for years. Observation is a key part in science so shop being a jerk and ignoring someone else’s observations.

If you have read anything kttkat has posted about her reptiles you would realize she loves them very much and doesnt put some "romanticized" spin on things. Thats so stupid you even said that. She obviously knows which reptiles of hers should be seperated and which ones can be kept together although all of your books suggest they shouldnt. Not everything is black and white in the animal world. you want to keep bragging about all your years of experience and knowledge of the subject only to put others down when all they are trying to do is share their love of the reptiles with everyone here and give advice coming from their experiences and time spent with them.

You want to further knowledge about GOD’S creatures and science then start opening your eyes and mind to some things. Stop going with the flow. She obviously doesnt put her reptiles in danger by the care she shows them. Get over yourself.

Coolguy, I greatly appreciate your advice on everything you have given me so far because without you and kttkat my knight anole would not be happy/healthy right now. But seriously, lighten up everyone.

Watch the "Christian the lion" video on youtube. It isnt relavent to reptiles, but PEOPLE CAN FORM BONDS WITH ANIMALS THAT ARENT ORDINARILY SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO FORM BONDS WITH PEOPLE. Whatever the circumstance is, they absolutely can. This doesnt necessarily mean they can feel love, peace, joy, grace, humility, faith, and most other emotions thathumans are created to, BUT they can forms bonds. Kat has obviously been able to open those doors, the rest of us should be lucky to as well.

I do appreciate your reply, but I need to say some things as well. Atrax has a very large amount of experience with anoles in particular. Very few people are left on this forum with any expertise at all and most if not all have left over the years as a result of what is happening now. Beginning hobbyists as you may have witnessed have a strong tendency to ask repetitive questions that are often stated just several posts down. Due to this, Atrax wrote a well-written guide with almost every answer to any question pertaining to anole care stated. Some people heed the advice and help propagate it while others don’t do any research at all and simply ask the exact same questions on a daily basis, which as you can imagine is somewhat stressful. On a different note, please don’t take what I say as rude, but not everyone strictly believes in a god and it shouldn’t be stated in a narrow view as the only option. Many people may find statements like that to be indirectly offensive even if there is good intent behind it. For instance, the majority of the scientific community denies any existence of a god and defines science through fact and provable theory. While I don’t have a problem with what you said, I would just rather there not be any sort of argument on religion or science in general. That’s just my view on it. Again, I appreciate the thanks for what you have said and am glad that any advice I stated was used. I just think you should possibly view the situation from someone like Atrax’s perspective as well.

You’re right and i will take into account a professionals perspective. But if people dont want to answer questions for new owners or hobbyist, they dont have to. Atrax was simply denying someones observation and experience which is the opposite from what a professional in the field of science of animal bahvior should do. That is why i defended her. Atrax’s direction was not right in my opinion.

And just because i am new to owning this particular reptile does not mean i am lost in the field of animal behaviour. I am and have been studying marine science and biology at a large university for years. i know some things too.

And trust me i know the outlook on a creator in science. As i said before I am currently studying marine science and Biology at a large university. I dont need to be told where God stands in the scientific community. However most people forget that there even is an "intelligent design" argument out there because science shoves their propaganda down their throats. What science teaches shouldnt be held as the only option either. Yet it is in most areas nowadays.

My aim was not to bring religion into the discussion whatsoever. We can talk about that on a different website, and i wasnt doing that. I simply have my nickname what it is on here because thats what i am, and i capitalized the word God because i chose to do so without invoking a religious discussion.

My aim was to defend her view from a scientific perspective of animal behaviour because too often people are close minded to the field of study they proclaim to be experts in.

And lastly i dont think you are being rude, only giving me a warning that is well received. I appreciate it and your advice. Only wish to underline the view she was coming from and where i was coming from.

I guess I can understand where Atrax’s frustrations may come from... it seems that the majority of visitors to the Anole forum are between 10 and 13 and don’t understand internet etiquette, proper grammer, etc etc. However, I hope that wouldn’t be reason enough to lose patience with all. I do value Atrax’s wealth of knowledge, but I think there’s a line between providing knowledge and answering questions (and I have seen people direct their questions SPECIFICALLY to this user) and being condescending towards others, which I feel like I have noticed from Atrax. Like I said, I really do value having a user that really does know what they are talking about and who can teach others how to care for their lizards, but sometimes I wish it came without the superiority. Can’t one be a teacher without often coming off like they are better than absolutely everyone else and only their views are the correct ones? I’m definitely not trying to insult, and if I wanted to I probably wouldn’t bother because I doubt this will evoke any anger or emotion from Atrax.

But what is the point of trying to tell another user that she is wrong about the way she has observed her reptiles interact? Why bother trying to tell her she is wrong, wrong, wrong? Apparently she is still extremely bright and has well cared for lizards, so what does it matter if she has a "romanticized" point of view? Heck, maybe it means she does more for her lizards as far as their care goes than other more disconnected people might. Why is it so bad for one to think that their lizards have bonded or like being on their shoulder? They look healthy in their pictures and she seems to understand how to know if their were stressed and would seemingly remove them from the situation- and I think she has discussed this about her geckos- so obviously she is not stupid. So again... why MUST Atrax HAVE to be right? No harm is being done with her views... let her feel as she wants, as long as she is practicing good husbandry.

ok people so we all agree that atrax is smart but REALLY needs to stop being such a jerk when it comes to his advice. I’m proud of you for trying to get through to him but clearly he shows no emotion to such comments(including this one).so if you have to ask him a question try to look past that all or just ask someone else. When you’ve been on this forum as long as Atrax has, and had to deal with people asking your advice and then ignoring it, or others contradicting with false facts, it’s easy to see why he gets annoyed. Not to mention people asking the SAME questions over and over again, despite that he has a caresheet that tops all others I’ve seen out there on the web.

So folks, seriously, lay off Atrax. He’s the reason many folks still have LIVE anoles. If this argument doesn’t end now, I’m contacting the Webmaster to report harassment and trolls. If you have a problem with Atrax, PM him and tell him yourself, so he can tell you to buzz off and get back to the topic at hand: ANOLES.
