Reptiglo 10.0 tube No that is not right. ALL compact bulbs are bad, and the reptiglo 10.0 long tubes are bad as well. You need to get a reptisun 10.0 or reptiglo 8.0 long tube for uvb. -Jay

Reptiglo 10.0 tube And no red light either. Dragons cant sleep properly with the light on even red ones. they don’t need any supplemental heat at night at all if the temp doesn’t go below 65 at night. If it gets colder then that you need to use a ceramic heat emitter that puts out heat but no light. it is important that beardies cool down at night for there bodies to shut down properly, so 70 or even high 60’s at night is perfectly fine. -Jay

Reptiglo 10.0 tube I didn’t read all 4 pages ...just 1 and 4
For all you folks that would like the test results and the information as to why these bulbs are dangerous I have had this link for some time now and I am surprised you have posted it ....
Link
This is a fantastic company testing and questioning the manufacturers of the bulbs to get them replaced and or changed.
Alot has to due with the foreign countries using different phosphors in the bulb and then marketing them to the names we know and , cough , trust.
Best Regards

Reptiglo 10.0 tube I don’t know if anyone else has noticed but I’ve seen less people using the crap bulbs and more using the good ones. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or not but I’d like to think it had something to with everyone’s responses to this thread. Thanks everyone who shared their own experiences and those who posted links to the bad bulbs!!! Also, thanks for keeping this bumped!

Reptiglo 10.0 tube I just got so tired of seeing people buying this bulb (reptiglo 10.0) without knowing the negative affects it was having on animals. I knew that other threads had been started about that bulb but they never stayed at the top. I almost didn’t start this thread. I’m glad I did now. I can’t believe the response it’s gotten! I’m very surprised, lol.

Reptiglo 10.0 tube LOL ...I bought one on E- Bay ....ohhh I thought what a deal ....
Then I thought ...what if it really is’nt new?
Then I read the bad stuff and just sidelined it ...it was an emegency back up but I did use it
The new instructions came with and said "Let it burn in for 150 hrs. to reduce the UVB out put.....and increase the minimum distance from 12" to 15-18 during this "Burn in Time"
Additional studies say never use an aluminum reflector hood...paint it white or something.
To much hassle for all the new folks .....just try explaning that to someone LOL

Reptiglo 10.0 tube Hello,
Oh good grief, new instructions? I hope that they jank them off of the shelves soon anyway. Besides, the UVB output is so poor that if you move it to 12-15 inches away you may as well not even use a UVB there is so little output. Why bother.
Glad you read this thread!

Reptiglo 10.0 tube seriousely don’t use these bulbs(reptiglo10.0) were taking my frilled dragon to the vets now and i think it’s that light but my brother won’t go and pay extra to have a reptisun ordered as we can’t get reptiglo 8.0 he refuses to eat and open his eyes we just had a massive scare because his breathings slowed down and he stopped for a lil while with his eyes closed in my hands it was really really scary. he’s been like this for a week now!
Tracie they havn’t in England in fact they won’t make smaller than 46" reptiGlo 8.0 and theres only 3 on the rack were as they’ve got like 20 reptiGLO 10.0s in all sizes at my garden centre where I get all my supplies for my reptiles.

Reptiglo 10.0 tube Oh no, that’s horrible! $20 for a reptisun 10.0 (lllreptile.com) is a heck of a lot cheaper then a vet bill. I hope everything turns out ok!!!! Please keep us posted. If you haven’t already, turn of the UVB’s that you have in there now and let him go a couple of weeks without one before replacing it.

Reptiglo 10.0 tube Were getting a reptisun 10 ordered it’s coming in about 2 days. He had 3 injections. Antibiotics, fluids and a appetance boost. The lights all need to be smashed they don’t just effect beardies they effect all the lizards that get put under it. If he hasn’t sarted getting better by tommorrow morning then we’ll have to take him up to a zoo where they have specalists but until then we’ve turned up the temps, turned off the UVB and left him alone, But if the antibiotics have worked then were taking him back to the vets to have another shot of antibiotics and also give us some antibiotics to give him orally. It’s annoying because we’ve just managed to get our CWD up to normal weight after he had moved to another tank and also lost his mate because she died of depression but now our frilled dragons took the turn for the worst. The vet said that these next 24 hours are critical(sounds like some kind of hospital soap opera lol) and there’s a possibility that he’ll die. He hasn’t even got the energy to lift up his head or hold on to his log. He just sleeps on the floor and can’t even turn his feet over when ever his legs have gone the wrong way up. He doesn’t even focus on the food even when you put it right by his eye and refuses to open his eyes at times and his breathings slowed down tremendously.
I’ll add a new thread in a min

Not just lizards, all herps! I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. I really hope he pulls through. I’m glad you posted this though. People need to know what it’s like to go through something like this. It’s quite an ordeal and it’s very scary. Again, I’m so, so sorry! I’ll keep him in my thoughts and prayers!!!

Geeze Charlotte, i’m sorry to hear about this, i know how you feel, i went through this a few months back with my adult beardie, i didn’t think he would make it b/c of the terrible shape he was in as well, but he did, after weeks of baby food and alot of warm soaks, it took long time for him to eat on his own again, but the best of luck to you and i hope he pulls through...Nancy.

Reptiglo 10.0 tube BUMP! I had the Reptiglo 10.0 compact/coil bulbs, actually I had 3 of them, but now I am going to replace them. Actually I am proably going to end up redoing the whole vivarium by the time its all said and done. I’m probably just going to say H3|| with it and replace my heat lamp as well and just get a Mercury Vapor Bulb and be done with it. Are there any special requirements that I need to know about concerning MVBs or can I just "plug and play" so to speak? Any help would be appreciated.
I can provide more info about my setup if necessary. Thanks in advance.

Reptiglo 10.0 tube I don’t use the MVB’s personally but I have heard that you need to keep them at least 12" away from the basking site. I also heard that when you take them out of the package not to touch them with your bare hands. Something about the oil in your fingers destroys the outer lining of the bulb.

Reptiglo 10.0 tube I use MVB’s for my dragons and they are great! You have to have a 40 gallon at the very least, due to them putting out alot of heat. Yes, they must be 12 inches away, depending on what whattage you are using, some need to be even higher than that. Yes, it says not to touch the bulb, and for any reason if you shut them off, they completely need to cool down before they will come back on. I have noticed some great changes in my dragons from MVB’s, they eat more, are more active and healthy, and the colours on them now are amazing!!! I will never switch again! lol. Also, you will not need any other sorce of uvb with these lights, and you will not have to give your dragons any D3, b/c these lights help them produce enough of it.
Nancy.

Reptiglo 10.0 tube Nancy, do you have to use a supplemental heat source with these? I’ve heard that they don’t get as hot as they’re supposed to. We are going to build new enclosures soon and I’ve been thinking about trying them.

Reptiglo 10.0 tube Hi Sarah, it depends, i have 6 foot long enclosures, and the mvb,s do get very hot! and they are 125 whatt, but b/c of the larger enclosures, i had to add a spot lamp in the middle, with a 40 whatt, to keep the temps up in the 90’s, and the cool end takes care of itself, 80-85. These enclosures are on the floor as well, so during the winter months, for the heat lamp in the middle, i will probable have to go with a 50 or 60 whatt, due to our temps outside here in winter dropping as low as -60 below 0 celcius. And i am very excited about adding the sand/soil mix TOMORROW! I can’t wait for my beardies to have some fun in there! And NO ONE please comment on what i said about the substrate! lol.
Nancy.
