 Reptiglo 10.0 tube

Man there just seems to be no break for me! I’ve been on the run for this lamp all day the past two days! First I had a compact reptiglo 8.0 then now I got a Reptiglo 8.0 tube but it was 15" and didn’t fit what I had! So I returned that and went and got a reptiglo 10.0 because they didn’t have zoomed’s Reptisun 10.0 Thought it would be the same! Alas! it is not! So here I am ordering a MVB from somewhere. Might be able to get one from the PetSmart but it may be just as much to buy it online. I’ll give them a call tomorrow and we’ll see how it goes!

If your going to get a MVB and order it from the net, get a Mega-Ray, from what I hear, they are the best, and they are the cheapest.

I’ve ordered mine off of ReptileDeopt, they have the cheapest shipping to Canada. It won’t be another week or so tho until I get it so I will have to take my beardy out for real sun periodically throughout the day.

I have D3 powder, is that all that the UVB is used for at least that I can help bu giving him D3 every day, or does it just mean there are ingredients in the powder that help the dragon synthesize the calcium?

He will also be okay for the next two weeks if I keep doing this real sun bathing outside right?

I was also thinking maybe if it’s at all possible for some admin or something to change the title of this thread to ***IMPORTANT TO ALL*** so that people know to read it.

K, I missed where you were in Canada, the Mega-Ray isn’t available up there. Vit D3 is the vitamin used by Beardies to process Calcium, but a few ppl that I have talked to say that the D3 suppliment is next to useless because the beardies digestive tract doesn’t absorb the D3 properly, so sunlight is going to be your best bet for getting UVB, wich is what helps the beardies produce Vit D3.

 Reptiglo 10.0 tube

G’day,

I have used the repti-glo 10.0 (coiled light) for a research paper i did last year during my final year at University. I was testing the tolerance of a new Ultraviolet forensic camera released in the market. I used a spectro-photometer to measure the output from 410nm (deep blue) down to the UVB range for this light. There are several spike points on the light that goes down to 364nm (which is pretty much at the top of the UVB range 380nm - 200nm). The interesting part about the light is there is only a high spike at 365nm and at 364nm (double spike), the rest of the spectrum is only at about 30% from base with some parts totally missing. When you get down to this range of UVB there are safety concerns with the use on such a narrow band radiation. UVB is harmful to skin and is the leading cause of melanoma. Normally this range does not affect reptiles due to the thicker scale covering on their bodies it’s perfectly safe for them at this range (unlike us). Having said that prolonged exposures to narrow band radiation does affect areas that are less covered by membranes (i.e the eyes). Prolonged exposure to narrow band radiation to an animal that has photo-receptors in its retina that detect ultraviolet is like constantly staring at an arc weld or directly to the sun in our case. This could be the main reason why BD first show their symptoms in their eyes for adverse re-action to the ligth source. I suggest that people not use this light as a UVB source due to the high spikes at those perticular points in the spectrum. There is no UVC output for any commercial use light source that i know off and this light source does not output any either.

*P.S i can post the photo of the UV part of the spectrum if anyone is interested. Quite cool to see pure colour as well as colour ( wavelenghts of light).

No worries, it’s not your fault the beardie killer uvb’s are still on the shelves, and alot of people are just not aware of it as well, not a big deal, just return it for one of the safe ones i told you about in your thread...

No, Tod is sick b/c you do not have a uvb at all, i know the pet store gave you the wrong info as i read in your thread. You need to get him a uvb asap, either the ReptiSun 10 long tube, or a MVB depending on his tank size..
