LOL, yes Tracie, we are keeping it bumped for the newbies, alot of them still do not know about these lights so it’s staying near the top :)

Hello Nancy,

Great! Francis is supposed to be trying to finish up the UK UVB meters report for 2008 here pretty quick, hopefully by the end of the month or early March. I will let you know when she is finished.
That will show the results for the Reptiglo, I hope. I am pretty sure that they will be included in the test data.

 Reptiglo 10.0 tube

Hi all,

I haven’t posted for ages (probably something like a year now) a few of you may remember me and George

and be honest, who could forget a face like that!. I have been lurking in the background occasionally and caught up on this post a few months ago.

Well, I’m glad to say George is still doing really well, despite having been under a reptiglo 10.0 tube (36" / 30 watts) for nearly 2 and a half years I’ve had him now, and I think for the year or so before that when he was with his previous owner, and has seen no ill effects from using this light. I don’t know if the bulbs are made differently in different parts of the world, or even if they are made in one place and shipped worldwide, but I think we need to get our facts straight and not continue to lambast exoterra if they have rectified this problem (if it ever existed in this particular bulb as I have seen no factual evidence about this specific bulb).

Hope you are all well from me and George (and my Leo Sky)

 Reptiglo 10.0 tube

My new baby beardie went blind yesterday, and i turned it off when i read about photo-kerato-conjunctivitis being caused by the bulb. today is the first day its been off, and like yours, hes not eating. did it take yours a week to eat again or is he gonna die? I ended up buying a compact bulb, thinking the wattage was the problem, luck for me i read about compacts being just as bad before i tried it. strangely enough, i didnt have a repti-glo 10.0 UVB, it was a 10.0 UVB made by flukers. i guess its just as bad. Everyone points to using the tubular repti-sun bulbs, but i only have a 24 x 12.5 x 12.5 tank for him (i know its kinda small, by hes a baby, and i intend to handle him often.) How can i set up a tube bulb for the UVB AND provide heat? Anyone got suggestions for a reasonably priced heating/lighting set up? oh, and right now, for heating i have a 100 watt ceramic bulb. It keeps the basking zone at about 95 even at night and mid to low 80’s day and night in the cool zone. I just got him recently, but i loved him when i saw the little guy at the pet store, and id hate to lose him :( when i say reasonably priced, i dont mean enough to keep him alive. I want him to be happy, but im no millionaire.

Hello there,

I am so sorry to hear that. Yes, the compacts and coiled bulbs are just as bad, or worst than the ReptiGlo 10 tube. Here’s a link with some wonderful info...link

Now that you have shut it off, hopefully he will be ok. His eyes should open up again and he should start eating it may take a few days. Since he is a baby you will need to get some nutrition in him so get some chicken and squash baby food and offer it through a syring or dropper a coupple x a day until he is eating on his own again. Give him lots of warm soaks as well, it will help hydrate him.

First of all you will need a larger tank for him. You can get the ReptiSun 10 tube here...link

Instead of a ceramic heat bulb, get a regular house hold bulb for heat, beardies need lots of bright light and those offer none. The basking temps for a baby should be at least 110f. 95 is way to low for a baby. The cool end should be 80-85f, and they do not need a heat source at night as long as the temps do not frop below 60-65f, it is just as important as the day time temps.

How long as he been under the compact? How old is he exactly? Do you offer supliments?

Nancy

I DO offer calcium with the crickets (shank’n’bake). If I use a house bulb, that only provides light doesnt it? the ceramic bulb gives off heat, and i used the UVB light for, well, light. He was under the bulb for only a day, 12 house is his light cycle. Ive heard many others like 10/14 12/12 14/10 and the pet store i got him from was on 8/16, so i decided 12/12 sounded ok.

You can go to wal mart, or any hardware store, and pick up a regular flood light, those get hot. Regular house hold bulbs do give heat as well, you will just have to play with different whattages to get those temps up. Start with 100 whatt and see what that does for temps. The emitters do not give off any light, and if it’s to dark in a beardies cage during the day, it will effect their eating habbits, as well as they may become lethargic if it’s to dark during the day.

12-14 hours is good for a beardies light and heat cycle :)

As a baby, make sure to offer pure calcium (no D3) 2 x a day, and after 4 months once a day, and after 8 months 3 x a week.

Multivitiman needs to be offered 2 x a week also, and once a week for calcium with D3...

Take it back. They claim to have fixed it, but there are still LOTS of people having problems with it. Just go with the reptisun 10.0, you can’t go wrong with it.

Hello,

I agree, until the UV guide releases the test data I don’t recommend them as I am still seeing problems here & there with them.
I honestly do not know if they have completely fixed the problems yet. One huge complication is IF they have fixed the problem, they never did revoke all of the old stock off of the shelves yet, so the good & the bad lights are all mixed up together.

Frances Baines is a well known researcher ergarding UVB and reptile lighting...If you are seriously interested you can join this group free and read all about the tests that are done ..being done... and forthcoming

It is really interesting and lots of folks like you and me participate there with questions and answers. it’s free and e mail lets you know when a post is up ....I have learned so much about proper lighting and people who are in the industry , it really helps when making decisions about what to buy ..or what not too.

Here is the latest test on some bulbs we are concerned with
