sorry im still deciding between mvb and tube. i could either go with all the other junk i said before or this would be cheaper if i got this and a reptisun 10.

http://www.bigappleherp.com/Fluorescent-Mounting-Fixtures?sc=2&category=22
would this mount to the inside of the cage or what? and would a 24" bulb be big enough for my cage thats 36" long?

i am worried that if i go with the megaray and have it out on the stand the space in between the blub and the cage would cause my bedroom to turn into a sauna.

sorry i have trouble making decisions if you havent noticed already.

Hey mike / eddy...i just wanted to say that if you buy a mercury vapor bulb ...you won’t need to replace it for a year or 14 months...if you buy a tube you can count on replacing it every 6-8 months for sure.....I don’t know if you have a fixture or not yet...for a tube...but if you have to but one of those ...that’s another 30- 40.00 ...then if you upgrade to a larger enclosure ...you have to do the tube over again ...the MVB ...you set it up and you go with it where ever when ever...forever!!

Makes sense to me...

Ohhh I went backwards and read some other of your posts...wanna know how honest and genuine Mega Ray is???...the temp gun is available from them for 25.00....but the real maker / seller is TEMP GUN >COM...the PE-1 sells for 25.00 there too...but when you buy it from mega ray with your bulb ...they don’t add any more for shipping ...still 10.00...i was so happy with my decision...I said way back in the beggining ...I knew my T-Rex was about toast ...so the hunt was on ....and I hunted like a homeless person looking for aluminum cans ....lol

Or an Indian looking for a drink as Nancy would know....up there in the GReat WHite NOrth...kuuu oooukkuku...ehh

You really should Sham, i would have marched straight up there and said something!!! When i bought Otis, the WD, they tried to sell ME a compact, can you believe that? LMAO, i almost got into an argument with the sales manager, and there was even a vet there that disagreed with me, think she should go back to school!!! But yea, go for it man!!

thats when you print up the page that shows the information when you go back to drop off your son and hand it right to the sales manager and the vet. i guess you are right selling people bad items is good for business.. stupid people . but i figured the managers are just people trying to get by in life its not really there faults that these things are bad. i mean the vets a tard but the manager is prolly some high school kid who got promoted when he went to the community college and needed some money. they are just going by the floor plans of the retail chain it self at least in my case im sure that is the problem.

yeah sorry. but its good uvb discusion. if they woulda used an mvb these problems would never happen! tho im sure with the small cages they would get cooked. and then we’d have to go blow up a few pet stores and start the hate group of rz called the RZ killas and steal all the pets and blow up the people!

Awesome!!! That’s what I’m talkin about! We should do that anyway, just for the fun of it. My local pet store owner needs to be educated as well. I thought that she was doing the right thing, but alas, she is not. I’m half tempted to start my own reptile supply store, just so that I can show people how to correctly care for herps. Ya know?

ya you guys are right. i will be ordering my megaray once my mom gets home, and then probly doing a crap load of chores to pay for it lol.

it is very sad about the pet stores though.i went into 3 the other day (in my search for a light) 2petcos and 1 petsmart. they were all selling reptisuns and or reptiglos for about 50$!!! and the ones that had bearded dragons had about 10 in a cage the size of a shoebox with only a heat light no uv. oh lol not to metion their powersuns were selling for 90$!! the one petco i went to used to have this realy cool girl that had a couple dragons and parrots and she knew how to take care of them and their cages were all clean(no calci sand amazing!!!) but now its just a normal petco full of poop those fu&#ers must have fired her for actualy taking care of the animals.

what breeders sell to these people??

Hi everybody,

First just want to say G’day, i live where the dragons are from. Being down south and so far away from the rest of the world reptile keepers here don’t have easy access to to the name products mentioned here. Most reptile keepers down under use MVBs as well, although the difference is we use the generic ones. All MVBs produce UV as a by product of the mercury vapor ionization some better than others. Manufacturers of consumer household MVBs coat their bulbs with UV absorbtion materials but the ones that are clear floods which are used generally for street lamps down here are not coated so we use them as an alternative to the expensive brands or the ones we can not get here. Nobody in Aus stocks Hagen or T-rex so most of us just use un-coated MVBs. Any way if you guys find MVBs that are clear i suggest buying them as they may be cheaper and work just as well, in any case you could just keep them as a spare if the ones you use blows and use it until you can get your hands on the ones you like and trust.

I have always been fascinated by the fact that there are more BD breeders in the US than here. The variety of the colour morphs you guys have available is astonishing. The ironic thing is it is illegal for me to buy them from the US eventhough it is actually illegal to export them from here in the first place.

wow i finaly got my new megaray mvb and it is nice. i had bought one a long time ago and it was a older model. they got rid of a lot of the bugs from the old one. the first one i had didnt come on 100% right away it took a minute, it buzzed a little bit, and it kinda had a funky green or blueish tint(not that noticable). The new one i just got comes on right away, doesnt buzz and the light is much more natural looking. lol maybe i just got a lemon the first time. anyway it works great and my lizard seems very happy. oh also it focuses the heat better, my room isnt as hot but it still gets the cage hot enough.

one question i got the temp gun which measures the surface temp of stuff thats different from the ambient air temp right? so when i use the temp gun the basking spot should be what like 95-105 for an adult?

CP - Thanks for such a great informative post. I just purchased the New Improved T-Rex 100 watt MVB Flood lamp. I went with that because it was the only one I could find that produced a flood vs a spot lamp and I preferred the wider heat pattern. I will definitely consider the Mega Ray MVB. How do you like its heat distribution? When I decided to go with the MVB bulb, I needed to get a larger and especially higher enclosure. I am therefore having a custom 48"w x 18"d x 24"H. This was to get enough distance away from my MVB lamp. What if any information do you have with regards to projecting the light through a 1/4" screen?

Thanks again for the great info!

hi. uhm just wanted to ask a few questions. my roomie and i have a beardie named churro. he’s pretty, a red citrus. anyway, we got him about a year ago at a show and the breeder sold us a powersun saying it was the one we should use and whatnot. well, that broke after about a month and a half. thankfully i had gotten a trex active uv one for emergencies a week before since i couldn’t find a powersun. since then he has had the trex kind. now we are looking into megaray after this forum and will probably get one within the month. but my roomie can’t believe that the breeder would sell him something and claim it to be "the best" if he could’ve gotten something better. so my question is what are the main differences. i know this discussion has probably been spoken about but i’m kinda dense so layman’s terms would be appreciated. thanks.
