I came across this store that sells Mega-Ray bulbs (and a lot of other stuff). They’re located in Canada (Waterloo).

i ordered the sun force from big apple herp .com cant find it anywhere else, leezards been eating more and being more active, i let him out in the sunhine everyday anyway, luckily i have that luxury here in southern california, so its always been hard for me to tell weather my ubv light is working properly, hes always most healthy when he gets 20 min of sunshine a day anyway. so anyway, if any more info on the sun force is availible let me know plz, thanks

The only thing i have heard and read about the sun force is they tend to burn out alot quicker than the rest, MegaRays ate the best imo. I’s great you can get him outside everyday for real sunshine, i am looking forward to summer myself, right now all i see is snow, and lots of it! LOL...

There seems to be a problem currently with the link to UV guide .UK ... I am seeking links and info, but the site / link is broken ....

So I went to Mega Ray instead and tried to use their link ...same results . I hope it comes back soon.
It has tested and shown the short life span and rapid decay rates of the competition bulbs ...you will buy 2 bulbs and use up the UVB properties before a years time...where as the Mega Ray will last longer than a year ....and here in this article are the independent test results

About half way through the article researchers Test the Mega Ray and speak of the DECAY RATES ... less than 15% over 12 months ...whereas other bulbs , although they put out visible light the UVB has decayed as a tube light. You will be mislead to think it is still emitting UVB in significant amounts.

MRGA RAY reports

I know , I should work for these guys , but I swear I don’t ... I have never seen so much testing and reporting and conclusive facts ... So I ask you all....read and weigh the results carefully. Your 30.00 dollars now ..and 30.00 later and the health of your animal ... well I don’t need to use scare tactics ... but unless you buy a 6.2 Solar tech Solar meter, you won’t know if the cheaper bulbs are working correctly. They are not tested by their owners or independent companies .... where else are you going to get this info???

Yep, you should definately spend the little extra amount of money it’ll cost to get the ceramic fixture. The plastic fixture can’t withstand the heat or wattage that the MVB put out. I think the fixtures are around 6 or 7 dollars at Wal-mart or any hardware store.

Yep ... what shadow said ... the plastic will melt eventually ..this can cause your bulb to just fall out of the sockect ... and or worse ....a fire...

Upgrade the socket ...or get a new hood ...as little as 2-3 bucks ...or 20 for the new deep hood with rocker on off switch.

Sorry I have a questiion you guys!

I just got my 125 watt MVB that is a Solarglo Hagen, like the one Nancy uses..

How far away does it need to be?

It seems like sometimes it doesn’t get as hot as my normal 100 watt house bulb, but other times it gets that perfect 110degrees.

Kuzco’s tank is 15.5 inches high and he sits on a branch thing that lifts him about 3-6 inches off the ground plus the tiles stacked... so he’s probably within 6-9 inches from it?

If its any lower, the MVB doesn’t heat the spot as well...

Am i doing something wrong or is that just the way it is.?

Thanks!

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

The MVB needs to be 12 to 18 inches away from the basking spot.

Yes. A lot of us have problems with heating the cage and using the MVB. I personally just added a 60 watt light bulb for extra heat. It got the temps right where they should be.

Oooohhhh.

yeah I thought that MVB’s were supposed to be HOTTER especially since mine is 125 watt and you know how the pictures on the back of the box for some of the UVBs, I always thoguht the rays it show are same for the heat.. but i guess it only applies to the UVB rays.

Yup I have a 100 watt on the side so he has two basking spots and cool spots.

Thanks a lot!
Tjhat really solved my problem! haha

Lisa, the 125 whatt needs to be 12" away, I have always had to add a extra lamp to keep the temps up though as well. The 160 whatt has to be 18" away. Do not have the 125 whatt any lower than 12".

BTW, I don’t use them anymore, I went with the MegaRay for the boys and the T-Rex floods for the girls :)

Nancy,

Oh okay, yeah my 125watt is 12inches away.
I do have a 100 watt normal house bulb on the side so he has two spots to get temperatures up to 110degrees.

thanks.

Oh yteah I wanted to get those other ones, but SOO expensive haha.
We’ll i’ve got a year to get them if i do, so maybe i might be able to :)

Thanks.
