Another Goofy Hiding Place Ok just to get another opinion from an expert I know from BHB reptiles who has been in business for years and has untold number of snakes, I asked him about the handling and below is his reply, so we are supported in our thought process and after this I am for real done with this whole argument, which was stupid to begin with.
"There is no doubt that handling is not bad for them. The only argument could be that they can get a little stressed from handling. Germs is the most ridiculous argument I’ve ever heard.lol These animals are born in the wild and exposed to more germs then we could ever put them in front of and live just fine. There are weird people in all walks of life and this guy sounds like one of them:) So this one is not true at all:) Keep em coming and I’ll see if I can ever use them in the show. Thanks, Brian"

Another Goofy Hiding Place you guys both have points but both points are wrong it just depends on what wrong you want to do and what right you want to do, if you leave them in thier tank all thier life they wont get as much excercise because 99.9% of the herp keepers dont have large enough enclosures for roaming and excercise, but if you take them out it has negative effects too, like if you keep them out long enough they can go into shock when you put them back in and it also could cause stress, not to mention unfamiliar situations for them such as getting stuck behind a bookcase or being in the middle of a room that they know nothing about, if you have a small cage for them, you have a few choices....take them out of thier cage and stress them out or get them a larger cage! or leave them in there so thier not stressed and are dominant but they will be lazy and inactive, all bad accounts lead to getting a larger cage, for a 9ft boa the smallest you SHOULD have is a 9x5x8 LWH or larger, i see people putting them in 8x2x2 cages and its just wrong, ive always wanted a boa but i never have because i feel its cruel to put them in such a small enclosure and most people dont have the room for a large snake or other large species of reptile, i have a monitor who needs a 8x4x4 minimum and i know thier differant from snakes but when a 4ft lizard needs a 8x4x4 minimum why should a 9ft snake have to deal with a lot less they need room to stretch out and roam and explore too just to keep them occupied, people would find out if you give more room for your reptile youd have a lot happier snake, and i dont mean nicer or calmer that will cuddle you, i mean a more thriving happier snake, if a snake or any reptile for that matter crawls on you and stays there, its mostly because thier cold, scared or sick( cant speak for bearded dragons, their just curious little guys and have no fear)
Just my two cents, Remixxx

Another Goofy Hiding Place not to be rude, but

Why only beardies? You are speaking monitor terms here with the sick/cold/scared thing. I know in all hell my boa isnt some cold, scared or sick snake. She is a heathly, relaxed snake. The reason why people use smaller enclosures for snakes is because the way they behave per say. You really shouldnt compare a monitor to a snake. Monitors are very active when given the proper husbandry. Snakes... dont move. They prefer to stay hidden thus, dont move. Some snakes are slight exceptions like Black Racers, Whip Snakes etc. They are constantly on the move. But Boids(boas and pythons) and the "potatoes"of the snake world. They dont waste their energy for no reason. So naturally, they dont move and preserve it for when they need it. :) Hope that helped a bit :P

Another Goofy Hiding Place well i say cant speak for beardies because ive never seen any other reptile act like they do, every other reptile i have seen has animal instinct, beardies have some but are on a complete differant social level than anything else, and i was comparing a monitor to a snake because monitors are a lot smaller than snakes and they still need a large area just to feel comfortable, and i agree and disagree about your comment on how snakes dont like to roam, i agree that they save thier energy for other stuff, but that "other stuff" is what? basking, eatting, and shedding right? well if you have a large enclosure with a basking spot up high on one end and a moist area lower and on the other end it gives them the exercise of going from basking spot to high humidity spot and so on, im just saying larger is always better especially with larger species

Another Goofy Hiding Place Other stuff as in, hunting, shedding, "flight or fight" when danger approaches. In the wild they dont eat very often so all boids instinctually stay put until they absolutely need to move. As for thermoregulating, they tend to stay in one spot for most of the day, and if it warm, they go to the other side and curl up again. You wouldnt see a snake stretched out "sleeping" I guess you can put it.

Again, monitors are much much much more active then any snake combined I think. They bask for a bit, and then they are on the move for food, burrowing, more food, and food. They eat so often because they need the food to keep their energy up because they are so active. I found, the more active the snake, the more it eats because of this. My Asian Vine Snake is constantly on the move because of his fast metabolism, thus I give him a larger enclosure. I’’m not arguing with you, just to let you know :P

Another Goofy Hiding Place yeah i was just trying to difuse the situation of two kids arguing lol both of thier methods have drawbacks so neither of them are right its basically a choice but either way a larger cage would fix both of thier problems, thier either socializing with them for exercise which causes stress or they dont socialize which gives them no exercise now i dont know how big of cage he keeps his snakes in but if hes not socializing with them i hope they are of descent size

Another Goofy Hiding Place Which 2 kids are you referring to may I ask? I know you are not talking about me, maybe someone else?
I can’t believe this thing came up again, I thought it was dead and gone...........and I was talking about Ball Pythons, not boa’s when I spoke, but the same thoughts go with boa’s as far as I am concerned.

Another Goofy Hiding Place I don’t see Dee being childish in any way. She’s simply protecting her ideas and stating opinions. As for people who are childish, I have seen a few in here but neither of them have been the people you claimed were.

Another Goofy Hiding Place Dee was not childish, she was angry! Just stated her feelings and they were valid ones, due to what was being said at the time, notice she has been done with this post for awhile now, got tired of the jerk spouting off his mouth all the time...........no one could talk to him, we were all WRONG, he was always right!
Anyway, I am done with this thing, not gonna read or reply anymore, is old news anyway.................
