Razer, keep it in a dry area and spray with a bleach solution. Let the liquid dry and you shouldn’t have a problem. Plus, why bother, if you can give them dirt from outside then a stick from outside shouldn’t be much different.

i dont use dirt from around here. i use bags of topsoil mixed with peat moss and play sand.

wood tends to mold and hold more creatures than dirt alone.

How big do dwarf Caimans get?

You are a rude dummy- Poster asked a question- Just answer it without the lecture. Save that for people around you who have to listen to it............

I’ve used pots of boiling water poured slowly over all of the surfaces of the wood/log with apparently good effect. No diseases or mold/fungi yet.

So i rarely post because I am so tired of people asking the same questions over and over, doing no research and then getting an animal that a few years down the road is "not cool" or "too mean." I do research on wild reptile and amphibian populations for the Cal Dept. of Fish and Game, as well as deal with confiscated/unwanted reptiles. I am tired of constantly going to peoples homes after a fone call, and having to confiscate a 4 foot croc/caiman/alligator that is living in a 50 gallo aquarium or a bathtub, starving and very nasty. Celtic Princess is absolutly right, and if it seems rude then you do not understand what its like day in and day out to deal with a problem that is so easily fixed.
DO NOT get a caiman unless you are ready to devote decades of your life and money to feeding it and housing it properly. If you are dead set on getting one, and have had EXPERIENCE with other large and nasty reptiles then do not buy one from a breeder, adopt one! Please listen to the people who TRULY know what they are talking about, or you will only end up hurting youself and an animal that only does what it was "programmed" to do through millions of years of evolution.
PLEASE think twice (no 100) times about getting a crocodylian before you just buy one on a whim.

Hey, I can see that you might be upset at the ignorance that some exhibit in reference to different Reptiles, bu t whatI fail to see is the reason for your off handed reply. Why don’t you just write a novel while you are at it. Who the he’ll died and left you in charge. I was expecting some good advise for some of the questions, but instead you go off on a tangent and get way off topic. You may(or as it probably is) or may not know your stuff when it comes to reptiles but any one that would recomend a person getting a Nile Monitor to get bit by is one of those comments that would lead me to believe that you are an . I have been bit by both and by far the worst of the bites were from the Nile monitor. Further more I find it very difficult to believe that a yearling Alligator was able to break your fingers. As I live in South Carolina I come across them quite often. Kinda like in my back yard. I can only hope that the person who was asking those questions was able to research the animals and throw your advise into the literal waste bucket. I also receive numerous animals from individuals and I gladly relocate them to good homes. You remind me of a PETA person. You seem right up their alley. Also when you end a writing with a quote, please be kind enough to mention the author. But that quote was real lame so you probably did them a favor....unless it was original material. , quit helping people.
Bo
