Females appear to have nothing there, except for when you look closely and see a faint row of V-shaped pours on top of their vent.

Google it, and you’ll find some pictures of what a male and a female look like.

I don’t think you did very much research if you think sand is an okay substrate for a beginner. sand is really bad for young geckos and even older ones if the temperatures aren’t correct and if you’re not experienced. Please use paper towels, reptile carpet, newspaper, or tile. Solid substrates.

Could you please tell us all the supplies you have?

There is no such thing as good sand. Especially for young geckos. Please please please don’t use it with a baby or juvenile. As an adult, it seems to be fine with proper temperatures, but not as a baby.

By the way, you need a digital thermometer with a probe at the end, and you need pure calcium powder and calcium with D3. I gave you some info on everything you’ll need in the beginning of the thread, so you could look at that.

Please use the carpet until she’s full grown. I think it would be a lot safer for the gecko

Ohh, calcium carbonate. It’s not sand at all. Okay, that stuff should be fine. I know a petstore(Trusted, good, local, healthy animals, not chain) that uses calcium carbonate with their hatchlings and they all grow fat healthy tails. Sorry about that.

Even so, I’m sure if too much is eaten it’s not a good thing. I advise you feed in a separate container.

You need pure calcium AND calcium w/D3. There’s a such thing as vitamin D3 over-dose and it has similar affects to metabolic bone disorder(Lack of calcium). Also, D3 is needed to process calcium. That means, pure calcium 3 times a week, calcium w/D3 two times a week. Or something similar. This is very important.

Then that should do fine as long as you use the cal w/D3 and the pure cal.

I hope I didn’t bash you. O.O;; I didn’t mean to, if I did. I’m just trying to help. You know, constructive criticism.

Anyways, I would never call taking care of an animal easy. Leopard geckos take a lot of patience and commitment. It’s hard at first, to get everything stable and it’s just hard because you’re not used to it. But, after it’s all said and done, it’s totally worth having your little friend! It gets a lot easier with time.

You also need some hides, for the gecko to hide. Sand isn’t recommended, and you’ll probably be a lot better off with just using the carpet you said you have, not much health issues there . At least two hides, one a moist hide with wet paper towels(warm side), and a nice, dark hide lol. Good luck with your Leo, I hope it all goes good!

You will need a warm hide and a cool hide, as well as humid hide with moist paper towels or sphagnum moss. Also, you might want to move the leo up to a 20 gallon tank when she reaches her adult size, because many people on this forum feel a 10 gallon is cramped for an adult leo. Also, it’s a lot easier to establish a temperature gradient with a 20 gallon. But, for now, a 10 is fine. Good luck.

P.S. Sorry I jumped in late. I haven’t been on in a couple of days.

Why would you throw a perfectly good carpet away? That could’ve been useful in the future.
