 Lost My Ball Python!

I just lost my Ball Python today and tore up my whole bedroom and it was no where to be found. I had it for only two or three days and it was so cool. I’m so upset that I lost it. If I can find it I will be SO happy but I doubt I’m ever going to.

 Corn snake escaped

Howdy people, Well what an eventful day!.. My corn snake escaped when she was about 9 months old, I had her in my attic conversion bedroom before I moved out, Salt/Flour is good for keeping tracks, i woke up one morning to see some tracks and found her on top of my computer base unit where it was warm. From that point on I put a vivarium lock on it as discovered she could put her tongue between the sliding doors and the side of the viv and wedge it slightly, then nozzle her nose in it till it’s wide enough for her to squeeze through.

This afternoon I went to check on her and my king snake, like I do every day (usually in the morning when i wake up but was behind on work so needed to catch up... she was GONE :(.. The one time i forget to put the lock on....

I searched the obvious places, around the side of her viv, behind it, in, behind and under the drawers her viv sits on, I made sure she hadn’t tried to get into the kings enclosure and became lunch. I then checked inbetween the cushions and under the sofas, i searched all of the shelves in the living room, under the rugs, in the fire, behind the fire in the flume, behind and under the tv, everywhere you could imagine, I then though well as it’s an old georgian flat and there are gaps under the doors, she’s gone for a stroll into the hallway, i searched the bathroom, i searched the kitchen, in the washing machine, dryer, under, behind the fridge and everything and where in the bedroom.

I got to a point where I’d almost given up for the day. The only place i hadn’t looked is behind the toilet in the bathroom, there is a false wall there to house the old septic tanks back in georgian times, there was no way I was going to climb into that, I hate spiders and didn’t fancy meeting any. My partner came home and I sent him in. he cleared everything out and said he couldn’t see her. I took the torch from him and popped my head in, as soon as i did so her head popped up flicking her tounge at me, she was hidning under some hold painters sheet that was in there.

So everyone best thing to do if your escapee is not in the most obvious places, is to look in the most unlikely places before you decide to ruin your lovely carpets with salt or flour.

I also recommend you google and download some freeware or free to try motion sensor software for your webcam. I set it up just as I was going to give up. I put some thrawled mice (it’s illegal for live in the UK) in her moss box and put that along the paramiter of the room, set up my webcam to point at that, (helps if you have a night vision one, can pick them up cheap for about £20-£25) and left the laptop turned on, any motion passes within it’s range it records it, minimum of 10 seconds and i set mine for a maximum of 30 mins. the siren helps too, if anything trips the sensor it sends out a load beeping noise, so if you are asleep you’ll be able to hear it and catch the little critter :)

hope this helps lol..

she is now SECURELY LOCKED AWAY :)

 Corn snake escaped

my corn snake has escaped a few times but i have always found him almost strait away, sometimes in the same place. some things to remember when looking for your escaped snake are: they don’t like open spaces. they will rarely cross the floor openly so they tend to hug the walls. so when you discover your snake is missing, follow your wall from the tank until you come across a nice little hidey hole. this has worked every time for me. yes corn snakes are amazing escape artists but once there out in most cases they just want to hide away again (especially if they are young).

never give up on your snake! the amount of time it would take to completely turn your house inside out is nothing compared to the good 20-25 years you could share with your snake!!!
