 Taming my savannah monitor

Perhaps it takes a Texan to understand the post of another Texan. I am talking about Real Texans, not the hordes of caprpet baggers who have shown up here in the last few years, drop a kid, and then call themselves Texans.

Mr. niiiice no Tea Partier. He is an OILWELLIAN. Rig? Oil? Get it? He could quite likely pop any one of these ’bad guys’ here a pop on the nose that would lay ’em out under a mesquite for quite a while.

He came here for help. Some people didn’t cotton to his unexpected impatient nongroveling attitude.
So they call him a jerk and a rudenick. Texans expect people to be friendly because thats how they are themselves (at first :)

He was the one that was being rude and acting like a lazy a$$. what does this post have to do with Texans? Like i said, it takes respect to get respect. I first posted about drinking and then trying to handle my Sav. I got blasted and deserved it. haha. I got a thick skin and stuck around because i read alot of posts and realized i could learn alot on here. When someone says they have no time to read certain things, what makes us think that this persson has time to properly take care of their pet? You have to make the time. I am not saying that this guy doesnt take good care of his animals, I am only going by what his post sounded like. ( I hope that makes sense) I want to see pics of his encloser when he can post them. It sounds pretty cool.

Personally i think you tube is a great source of info, it shows how to do it & how not to do it, look at crocdoc’s vids & shay’s vids.

It’s quicker & easier to learn visually most the time, backing your husbandry up with books for a more detailed insight. One of the mains tips your always given on here is read your monitor, is it in the cool end all the time, is it soaking all the time & so on. The answer to all these simple questions can quite easily be google or the answers found in previous posts, personally i’ve had to ask very few questions because the answers are usually on here somewhere.

Regards Mark

Aw heck. A person can’t even start a poop fight around here in the heat of the summer. I think I will go back outside and hammer some nails.

Youtube can be great for information the problem is that just like these forums you have to search though all the bs to find it.I have seen your videos and they are great, but anyone with a camera and a monitor can put up a video and like these forums most people with new monitors are going to look for what they want to see and here. The difference is on these forums the so called jerkes are here to help police bad advice that is given out,you don’t have that on youtube.

The op stated that he did not have time to read though this site when instead of posting a question on a subject that has been beaten to death he could have just scrolled down and would have found the answer. Some one had bumped up the how to cages two weeks ago and right on top of that post was nice asking about how to build a cage,so in the 20 minutes it took to wright out the post he could have read the thread in less time

Are we all wrong on this subject? Do our pictures of healthy animals not speak for themselves? Why is it so hard for new people to except what is right in front of thier faces? If you were to look at all the pics of successfull hatchings, Savs living to adulthood, Roger’s critters thriving, etc..... What is the problem with people learning from what others have done that worked? I do not go on youtube and so I have no clue what is out there. I do go on Rogers and MDF’s, but that is about all I see. Why do people make sh$$$. so hard? What is so hard about learning all you can about what you are fortunate enough to have in your care?

BLW get those crocs breeding!!

If enough people get there vids out there & watched, there’s more of a chance things will turn around, if we give up then there’s no chance.

As for DWS if you look at his newer monitors they are looking more promising, BLW & myself live in hope we might convince him to use a basking lamp!!

Yesterday’s gone, maybe we’ll change tomorrow!!

i’m going to the shed for my hammer!

I watched all his newer vids he sent them to me. I am not impressed at all. If you think you are going to change his mind on basking spots your crazy lol. It is not going to happen trust me. He is too far gone already.

He already has it in his head that he is doing everything right. He has a good growth rate so to him thats all he needs. He worships his chart.

Erin you asked why is so hard for new people to except what is right in front of them

Because it is not what they want to here. I fell into this category when I got my first two monitors,I knew better than any one else and who are these people telling me not to hold my monitors. When I first came to this site I thought it was full of jerks, then my nile died and I stepped back and started paying attention and eventually it all made sense, they where not jerks they cared about the wellbeing of there monitors and wanted to pass on what they learned

Bill i said he was improving, i didn’t say he was a role model, look at the new ones compared to Buzzy.

If we had a bet on him using basking lights, I’ll hand the money over now!!

The key word is "new ones" Mark. Give them some time without basking areas, and humidity. Then there’s the mystery meat diet. Buzzy and Lilly onced looked as the new ones do. Now Lilly is dead and Buzzy, well have a look at some recent dunces vids.

I was on the retic forum yesterday and a person there with the name LAZYGUY who has such beautiful snakes and designer retic morphs and is supposedly such a miraculous keeper. He has a Black throat monitor "Terrible shape" and I asked him why he doesn’t post here more "kindly to avoid argument" and he said that he doesn’t like this forum because HE HAS HAD BAD EXPERIENCES HERE!!! LOL hes going to be posting me a pic of its cage soon you guys might want to check it out there. Its just a prime example that people just don’t give a bozo and just want a cool lizard and keep it cost effectively.

If you do go look at the pic of it there can you tell me the reason for its tail waving and twisting like that?

Yes Roger i know your right, as i said to Bill i’m hoping he’ll change his mind & follow some conventional husbandry, you know the stuff that’s kept them alive since they evolved!!

The part that really worries me, there’s people round the world watching these you tube vids thinking they can keep them on newspaper in the house, i’m sure there is some houses in the world where you can do this, but as i said to DWS what about the rest that can’t!!

Well Mark, hopefully someday the only savs available in the pet trade will be the ones people such as yourself hatch so they are not available to every kid and goofball around.

bro savannahs hate people... all animals do the only reason why they sit on your lap and play pet is because they are either scared, sick, or cold, if they are healthy, full, and the right temperature thier thinking correctly and that means thier animal instincts are in play so they will run and hide and do whatever they can to not be around you, in the wild they dont just walk up to you and play pet because they dont like it and they dont want it...let it do what it wants not what you want
