Ahhh, I’m glad you didn’t buy the desert hairy! Those scorpions are notorious for having
molting problems when young. Almost always they die trying to molt! So yeah, don’t ever buy any
desert scorpion when they’re so young, they’ll probably die on you by the next molt. The cause being the nearly impossible possibility of duplicating the exact conditions of their environment to promote successful molting, the main issue being the humidity levels.

Ya, I think you’re talking about cork bark. These make good hides due to their light weight.

If you’re lucky, the store keepers can identify what sex the scorp is. If you can, give them a call beforehand and ask if they have anyone there capable of sexing emps. Otherwise you’d have to sex them on the spot before buying. I don’t think they’ll kill each other honestly. I’ve tried that with 2 emps before and they were about the same size as yours from the same "litter" at the pet store and they didn’t fight one bit even though one of them was pretty damn ferocious lol
Just keep an eye on them

Well if there wasnt any male ones then id be buggered cause wouldnt really want to get one off the internet or anything, and theres no other stores anywhere near, if not then id still get another, and yeah cork bark, my mate bought some, didnt really it was way too much for his chile rose to handle lol, so gave me abit, ive put it in, is looking very good actually, cant wait to get bill lol.

I bought some more locust today when i went down with my friend, i dunno whats happening, bought 8, fed ted 1, 1 dissapered? 1 died, so dont seem to be going too well so thought i would get another box lol.

And yeah i would keep an eye on them, hopefully should have another by the latest mid august i would think.

And oh right didnt know that, it looked so strange watching something 1 inch long at like 5mm thick go into its attack position lol.

Just fucked up big time.

Had scorpion out, seemed fine, was on my hand for about 5 seconds, all of a sudden bam straight into attack position stinger went down at my hang, so i flung my hand sending the scorpion onto the bed just avoiding the sting, put one of those see through containers over it.

Not sure what the hell happened but it didnt like it whatever it was, scared the life out of me, was lucky it went onto my bed really otherwise would be fair to say would be hurt abit.

Yeah even i was supprised, like imagen holding your left hand out flat with her on your palm, went to walk over to side of your thumb, so i turned my hand and let it crawl over onto the backside, then just stopped and went into attack position, back legs pushed off my hand and tail went up and started going down very quickly, so just flicked my hand sending her onto the bed, think ill leave it a while before handling again lol.

Yeah is a good guide for owning one from step 1 your right lol, and yeah maybe, hes got loads so should be fine to get some off him.

Spoke to some other people about the mites, they said like you if there not building up over the joints then dont worry, that if i see them crawling around its a good thing, told me to look around on the substrate and stuff to see if i can see any, which i can, said thats a good sign that its the good mites cause they dont need to be on my scorp so aint feeding off her in anyway, so im happy with that :D

ya, since they’re the good predatory mites, you don’t need to worry about a thing.
So are you still going to get a friend for your scorp? It’s a little tricky with the sub-adults because they still have a molt or two left. This means that after they molt and become soft, they are also very vulnerable. You’ll have to be careful when this happens and remove all prey items out of the enclosure cuz even crickets can munch on the scorp in this state. The scorps can munch on each other more easily too. They will also not mate until adulthood, so you won’t have to worry about babies for a while lol. With regards to them fighting, they probably won’t, but you also don’t want a dead/injured scorp either, so I’d still suggest keeping an eye on them. The two I had engaged in vicious fights; one of them to this day still has a dent in its claw and a dent in its stinger from those battles. Good thing they’re partners now lol.

Well as of yet i have just been feeding locusts to her by the 10 inch tongs i have, so theres no worries of the prey feeding on her, and so are you saying if one moults the other will notice that weakness of the other being easier to hurt?

And yeah i aint worried about babies i know there not gonna get it on as soon as i put them together lol, my friend says when i get the other to take the first scorp out and move the enclosure around and put them in together? Not sure why, all i can think of is so that the first scorpion doesent take it as a sort of territory invasion thinking its his place and why this other scorpion is coming over?

Well, some scorps may take the advantage to eat the other one. I used to keep a crayfish in a tank w/ fish and when the crayfish had a molt, the other fish ate him up big time lol. It definitely would be easy food if the other scorp wanted to eat it.

Ya, the purpose of moving around all of the stuff in the tank is so there are not territory issues and it’s pretty much a fresh playground for both scorps. This way, no scorp lays claim to a hide, they will both have to find new homes and get readjusted.

Ya, if they both wanted the same hide they would definitely fight over it. When my two scorps fought, one scurried under a hide and the second one came right in, fighting its way in until one of them left. However, later they both calmed down and shared the same hide lol

So yes, they will fight over it but they can also share the same hide. Since you may be getting a second one, get at least 2 hides in the enclosure.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much, the younger ones usually don’t fight to the death like the adults. Just remember to keep both of them well fed w/ the correct humidity and temp and they should thrive together.

That juddering action has happened to me before too. I take it as a territorial display...like, "this is my house" type of thing. It could also be to scare off any opponents or is a threat posture.

It’s ok, emperors almost always never use their stingers. I actually thought you meant the whole stinger came off, that would’ve been pretty bad. The tip won’t grow back, since scorpions don’t regenerate, but it’s alright.

I wonder how it snapped off. He can still try to sting, but it’s like poking w/ something that has lost its edge. Either way, he probably wouldn’t have used his stinger anyways. Yeah, there is usually a feisty one...always going nuts in confrontations. If you really don’t like that the tip broke, you can return that one since you just bought a scorp...don’t let them know anything’s wrong w/ it though lol.

Well its the only female they had left, plus i like him, i prefer him over the other one, hes so much more relaxed, if i poke the female with the tweezers i used for feeding she goes into attack position grabs it starts poking at it with her sting, with the male he sort of rubs it with his claw and thats it, seems alot more chilled lol.

Also something i have noticed, the male isnt hiding like at all, ive just come home from work its 7.40am, hes slept right out in the open, i know that a scorpion hiding is a good healthy sign, i havent seen him hide once, at all, even for a minute, and the other one never sleeps openly like the male is atm, thats not normal i dont think?

And i aint gonna take him back just cause of that, not like its a major problem, not as if its a dog with 3 legs or anything lol

I think he went exploring after you left and when you came back he was outside. A lot of times when Im awake early in the morning I go check up on my scorpions and I usually find one of them outside too. The other scorp of mine never does it, only one of them seems to go outside a lot and stay there. So I would guess he’s just exploring when the lights are out.

Ah ok, ive been watching them whilst fighting, had to stop them a few times, female had the males legs in one of her claws didnt look like it was gonna end good. But its strange when the female tries to sting the male she never can, hes smart, blocks her tail with his tail lol, and no i mean in general he never hides ever lol. And they dont sleep? really? Well thats another thing i didnt know lol
