Thinking of getting emperor scorpion, but i know nothing!

Shes a reare breed over here in england, she originates from brazil, cost they wanted £59 around $97, but i got for £45 which is around $75ish

But nah man serious shes alot more chilled out than they are aswell, most of the time she just sits there happily hanging from a corner lol, shes really docile aswell where as ive read her species are supposed to be quite skitish, but shes not really, im very happy with her :D

Yeah well like i said shes a rare find, luckily i got her lol.

And yeah no worries aint much i gotta do anyway to take care of her, and no aint tried handling, although she does seem really docile her species are supposed to be really skittish so can rush off in the blink of an eye, i dont know if ill attempt to handle her at all, could also be dangerous if she starts shooting hairs if shes out aswell lol

And once a week like my scorps with locusts

seems pretty easy to take care of her
lol I wonder what would happen if she shot hairs at you
doesn’t that temporarily blind predators? Or cause them some pain?

lol nice
Btw, i lost one of my scorpions the other day
I am guessing there were some leftovers in the tank which attracted
the ants.
pretty lame, that’s my second scorpion loss due to ants
So yeah, a little warning would be to take out all food items
Btw, I wouldn’t put any outside material into the tank unless
you put it in the oven first.
I did that a while back and my red claw got mites on it, thought the wood piece was clean too

ya, I was pretty disappointed about the loss. I was going to transfer it to this recently dried sand setup where he could burrow in the substrate.
It’s alright though, I am going to buy another one and hopefully it will be larger in size because this one was smaller than what I’d expected, so I’m hoping the guy will deliver me a nice sized one :D

Yeah, I really don’t like those little flies. I don’t know how you can really get rid of them though.
They show up whenever there’s leftover food, I think the smell attracts them.

hmm that dont make sense, i always remove food remains, but then i read somewhere they can lay 300 eggs each in the substrate so i was like sod that, tank looks alot better now, the massive log is half under cocoa fibre with one end closed off with cocoa fibre aswell, they love it in there, compared to before where they never went in there lol.

they have made a burrow into each hide from the back of each aswell, so they have 2 entrances into each hide lol

ill try get alod of new photos of them and the tarantula lol

Cool, I think scorpions prefer hides that are lowered into the ground. I used to have a half log and my scorp never went into there until I lowered it. Cool, wanna see the pics :D

Ok so heres some of the newest pics i have for you dude, some are bad quality, there all taken on my phone but can still see lol, check it:

my mate with boa on his head in 2 below lol

bill and ted in all below

You can see the one where ted (female) is eating that locusts head, and the other pic of the dead locust i call headshot, cause she just ate the head and left the rest untouched lol.

Some of sophie:

So yeah sorry there all rubbish quality mostly, and the light from the flash makes it worse! lol, but can still make them all out, let us know what you think lol

sweet pics man
that one pic w/ the emp eating the locust looks like its stinger is about charge at the locust lol

Dang, I feel sorry for that locust with your tarantula man
That tarantula has it in a good grip and is inserting two fangs into it.

Nice to see your scorps are active and healthy too
I don’t think i’d ever handle a tarantula though, those fangs creep me out.

Yeah i felt abit sorry for it too, didnt have much of a chance, not that they ever do, and i think its cause i moved when i took it that the sting looks like that lol, and yeah i fed it once i think it was the time before that photo and just ran over to the locust, one fang through the neck, the other in its eye, was mad lol.

Yeah i dont think much about handling my tarantula either, although she is really calm every time ive confronted her with my tongs and stuff she just backs off 99% of the time, her species are supposed to be a fair bit defensive but mine don’t seem that bothered lol, i tried to feed her just now and shes refusing to eat so maybe molt soon for her.

Nice! I might be getting an "african flat rock scorpion" from my local shop, look just like my emps but with green stripes and really thin tails, know anything about them?

cool man
yeah, I was planning on getting a flat rock myself
they looks pretty cool with the stripes and their thin tails

Yeah, I know a bit about them
They like it much drier than the emperor scorpion and enjoy hiding in between rock slates
I would keep their humidity at about 50%
I would also keep them on dry coco fiber and have a water dish ready for them.
That’s all they need really, the temperature should be 75-85 F as well.

They’re quite docile like the emp and have a very mild sting.
These you’ll be able to handle easily I’m sure.
They are one of the longest scorpions as well, the males have much longer tails.
So I would go for a male since they look cooler lol.

Well my local shop never has scorpions but they know im into them cause i took my emps in there for them to play around in, guy said he would give it to me for £5 which is like $9ish i think, its a sub adult like my emps but abit bigger so that seems quite cheap lol,

Yeah serious well sounds easy enough dry substrate and some hide thing ill have to find lol, i dunno whether its male or female or not, ill let you know, they also still got that desert one i told you about, the tiny one, israeli gold scorpion, dunno latin name so dunno if thats any help at all, but think it would be a nicer and completly different experience to have one from very small rather than sub adult to look after, deffinatly wouldnt eat my locusts lol

damn, 9 dollars is freaking cheap man!
they are usually 25 bucks here

Here’s an ok site with some flat rock info: http://www.petbugs.com/caresheets/H-troglodytes.html

you can mix in sand with the cocofiber too, it’s good for burrows
these like to hide in between rock slates though, like I said before.

Atm he/she will have to cope with the bark pieces as i have no cocoa fibre left over at all, i put one of the exo terra hygro and thermometers in there like with my other scorps just to make sure on temp and humidity, but she seems to be loving it :) Shes in a 46x26x25 cm fish tank i picked up cheap as you can see, shes got a little log hide, ill try put some rocks together though like you showed me with yours

Wow man, you got a pretty good looking one.
Most of the ones i’ve seen look half dead lol.
That one has sweet stripes and a good sized tail too

Yeah, rock slates are best for flat rocks. You can put smaller rocks in between the slates and stack them :D

here are my pics by the way:
This enclosure holds two Heterometrus petersii
I changed my enclosure, got a live pothos plant it in, top view:

thanks

Desert hairy scorps are cool, but I still like the tropical species of scorpions better. They’re pretty easy to take care of, you don’t need to mist or anything, don’t even need a water dish.

Yeah, it’s better to keep each scorpion in a 2.5-3 gallon container, 5 gal at the most. They really don’t need a lot of space. They’re supposed to be longer than emperors, but flat rock females should be around the same size due to their short tails compared to the males. Yeah, they’re not supposed to be bulky either lol.

Ive had my flatrock confirmed as a female, some guy showed me what males look like, completly different lol. Apperently males are REALLY hard to get hold of though, and with me being in england = makes it even harder probably lol.

Did i tell you about the dead scorpion i have? I went to buy it from the shop along with my flatrock but was dead but they gave it to me free anyway, i got it ID’d and turns out it was in the buthade family or whatever that ones called thats meant to be all the dangerous ones that we need license’s to own over
here, cant remember if i told you?

that’s freaking crazy man, you got your hands on a buthid. Those are pretty deadly lol. Luckily it came dead! lmao if you were to handle that and get stung man that would suck

damn, 160 bucks! Aren’t those tarantulas pretty large? Dang, I wouldn’t get rid of the flatrock, if you can, return it back to the store or buy it a really small container, they don’t need a lot of space at all. lol you’re going on a buying rampage too. Make sure you take picks of that bird-eater

In the 3 days ive had it its eaten 4 locusts, where as it takes my emps a few hours same with my flat rock and other t this one destroys them in a matter of minutes
