Does anyone use sand as substrate?

sand has the chance to impact mostly every kind of animal the only animal i would recommend sand for is a uromastyx and my uromastyx isn’t even on sand because there still is a chance it can get impacted and die i would really now use sand in your turtle tank. I use gravel with an under-gravel filter and that works fine.

Iv’e had sand in the tank for at least a week now and no it doesn’t easily get impacted, unless they sit there and eat it constantly, I saw him take a bite of it once and spit it right back out. It doesn’t hurt them if they accidently swallow some. And I did have gravel, but I like sand better.

No because, there are a lot of people that have had it for quite a long time and it doe just go right through there system. Also softshell turtles have to have sand and I’ve never heard of any impaction from sand. So I don’t know if you think you know this or if it’s from experience. But if one of your turtle died from impaction while you had sand I think you just weren’t lucky. I’m not going to take it out just because 1 person says it will hurt them when it can’t, when I know about 5-8 people who have sand and haven’t had a problem.
